Deftones LIVE November 15th 2003 "Nation" - Washington, DC - USA www.deftonesworld.com I went to the show in Washinton, D.C. at Nation,(November 15) and it was the best show I have seen there. Denali was great, They where the calm before the storm. Poison the Well rocked hard and good, but lets get to the point. The Deftones tore the place down. They started there set with a pink floyd cover of "Welcome to the Machine", at that point me and my girlfriend fell onto the floor from the force of the audiance we decide to watch from a different spot but before we did the Deftones began to play "Bloody Cape" and we ended up getting trampled in the middle of another mosh pit. We went up stairs. Here are some of the songs they played in order . It was a blur for me so my apologies for not being accurate: Welcome to the machine Fist Bloody Cape Bored One Weak When Boys Telephone Boys Digital Bath Shove It 7 words BQAD Korea Around the fur Battle-Axe (played after the Beer Devotion) Head Up Mx Change Minerva Hexagram Im Pretty sure this was the list, excluding some songs I missed and a mixed order. Anyways, the Show Rocked Hard as Hell, and The Deftones Just like Always set the venue alive. And Chino was at his best, With a Beer Dedicated to the audience. He Did some asking of ages to see the range in the audience. All In All, I just want to see Deftones again and again, There one of the Best live Bands out there. They are how do you say of the elite. secret20657@hotmail.com ----------------------------------------------------------- As their name hints, the Deftones tend to play at volumes capable of leaving an audience deaf. That impairment, however, really wouldn't have hindered fans' enjoyment of the nu-metal pioneers' dense, sweaty show Saturday at Nation. In their previous appearance in the D.C. area, the Deftones opened for Limp Bizkit and Metallica at FedEx Field. Perhaps nobody told the Sacramento band they wouldn't Need the same, coliseum-friendly sound system at a club the size of Nation. All melody was lost amid the decibel storm coming out of the house PA. But melody isn't important to the Deftones' oeuvre -- crunch is. And the crunch level achieved by the hirsute and fleshy Sacramento quintet inside the intimate, multitiered venue was impressive. Painfully so. Though the Deftones occasionally meld rap with metal to get through a chorus, their fans bristle when the band is compared with the more commercially successful Bizkit, arguing that the Deftones came first, and still come harder. Guitarist Stephen Carpenter hit drone notes and power chords that hung around as though he owed them money. Drummer Abe Cunningham and bassist Chi Cheng provided a bottom end heavy enough to anchor a freighter. But the centerpiece was vocalist Chino Moreno, whose assortment of growls and shrieks come from some not-so-happy place. On the plodding, hypnotic "Hexagram," Moreno knelt over the front of the stage, banging his own head to accentuate each shriek of "Worship! Worship! Worship!" as fans fought over each other to lay their hands on him. Like many of those inside the packed house, Moreno was drenched head-to-toe in sweat, and as the night wore on, his long shorts sank further toward the floor due to the weight of his own fluids. During the set-closing "Change," Moreno strolled atop a riser at the back of the stage and struck messianic poses while bathed in blue and red lights. Not to exaggerate the role bathing plays in the Deftones' art. -- Dave McKenna (WASHINGTON POST) ----------------------------------------------------------- The show was sick ! The best yet, the nation was small considering summer sanitarium. but any ways denali was good but didn't really fit in, poison the well was aw some and got me pumped for the deftones. They started off awesome when they where playing my own summer the crowd fell and i got knocked out so my friend had to carry me out so i was super bummed out that i missed the rest of my own summer and i was delirious the for a few songs later but after i gained some awareness, we where up at the front again and i got some amazing pictures of the band and chino 6 inches away from of course. But the show was by far the best and i was bummed cuase i couldn't meet the band and i couldn't bribe the security guard to let me through the fence so next time. Sorry couldnt get the paly list for you guys michelobe2002@yahoo.com
