10/14/00 Vancouver, BC PNE Center
I was at the Deftones Concert in Vancouver, and it was just fucking
amazing. It was played in the PNE Forum, which is a somewhat smaller
venue, so they were right there in front of your face. they were so
close that chino could have reached out and grab the mosh pit at
anytime, and he did. Taproot opened, and they weren't bad, but the
sound was pretty shitty in the place, so if you didn't know their
songs you couldn't hear them very well, but I still liked them. guys
voice was a bit annoying at times though. got everyone pumped up for
the main event though. After Taproot finished a big red White Pony
flag was hung in front of the stage so you couldn't see what they
were doing behind it. Then after about 30 min of waiting, it was
time. The flag dropped, and Deftones exploded. They opened with
"Korea" for WP, and that being one of my favs on the new CD, I loved
it! They played so well, such raw emotion spewing from chinos mouth
as he just went off in every song. I don't quite remember what order,
but I think they played these songs:
Korea
Feiticeira
Digital Bath
Root
Lifter
Change (In The House Of Flies)
Mascara
My Own Summer (Shove it)
Engine No.9
Birthmark
Dai The Flu
Teenager
Around The Fur
Headup
Back To School
Be Quite And Drive
7 Words
I think they ended on Around the Fur, but then came back out when
nobody would leave the place. The Highlights of the night would have
to be when they played 7 words, that was amazing. fucking amazing,
it's all I can say. Perfect. My Own summer was really good too, he
let the crowd in front of him sing parts of the chorus (The
"SHOVEIT!" part was screamed by the crowd).
Engine No.9 was also amazing. I was in the pit the entire set, except
when I was so tired from moshing that I'd crowd surf out for a
breather, but then go right back in. Chino made fun of Blink 182 a
few times, talkin' with Chi about how all they'd have to do is sing
about penis' and shit and all that. He also did an Eminem
impersination, he sang "You don't..........wanna fuck with
chi-no........'cause chi-no.........will fuckin' kill you" That was
pretty funny. My personal fav part of the night was when I was crowd
surfing, I'd been up for awhile, it was a really good surf, and I was
in front of chino for awhile singing along and pointing at him, and
he was looking right back at me and singing. Then I got chucked up to
the front and on to the corner of the stage a bit, and when the
guards dragged me off chino patted me on the back as they dragged me
off. They just blew me away, I can't get over how amazing they were.
My second time seeing them, but by far the best! Such a long set.
Loved it!
