10/15/00 Salem, OR The Armory
I saw the greatest concert of my life on Sunday. It was so amazing.
First Taproot got up on stage and at first I was a little sceptical. I
didn't really like the songs I had heard of them. Then they started playing
and I was blown away. They were pretty impressive. The lead singer had a
bunch of energy and was giving me high fives and even dove out into the
crowd. It was a good show. The only problem was the vocals were not loud
enough so it was hard to hear him.
Then Incubus got on stage. I hadn't really liked Incubus before and I
still kind of don't. They were alright but not as good as Taproot. The lead
singer didn't have much energy and just stood their and sang. He didn't
dance around really at all. He also took off more and more clothes as the
concert went on. I think he is kind of relying on the fact that the girls
like him to sell his records. He was cocky and didn't care that much about
the crowd. He just cared about how he looked. He got out this african drum
type thing which was kind of cool but got old after the first minute.
Then the banner dropped. I could here and feel it going to happen. They
got up on stage and the banner dropped. Holy Shit it was awesome. They
started out with Korea and it was wonderful. He ripped it up giving high
fives and jumping around on stage. A typical Deftones performance full of
energy and emotion. In this order they played Korea, Feitceira, Change,
Root, Lifter, My own summer, Dai the Flu, Mascara, back to school, Digital
bath, Teenager, Around the fur, Headup, Then they went off of stage. Came
back on for an encore. Be quiet and drive, Birthmark, and also Stef during
the show picked up someones drivers license up and gave it to chino. He said
Travis something. Do you know me. I don't fucking know you. Then he started
with 7-words. It was awesome. Chino got a guy and brought him up on stage
for the stagedive during my own summer I think it was. That was pretty cool.
During Teenager they turned all the lights off and then got the disco balls
going. They had three disco balls going at once and it looked amazing. The
whole concert was a blast. I loved seeing the guys in action. During the
show someone threw a shirt on stage and chi picked it up. He looked at the
size and gave a rock on sign and put it over by his stuff. Then at the end
of the show Stef was handing out pics and I got one. After that Juan the
"coolest man alive" came up to me and gave me a backstage pass. I went back
to meet them and got my picture taken with them. Only problem was my
batteries fell out during the show so I don't know if they came out or not.
It was amazing though. I also got to talk with them a little and got a knife
prty poster signed by all of them but Stef, who didn't show up for the meet
and greet after the show. It was so cool to finally get to meet them and
they were so polite and presented themselves very well. It was a pleasure to
meet such great guys.
