DEFTONES @ "The Starland Ballroom" Sayerville, NJ - USA 29 Oct 2004 www.deftonesworld.com Got back from the Deftones concert at the Starland Ballroom in Jersey. This is the first time I've been there and its a pretty tight lil place. Dredg opened with the same set-list as posted from other shows, i believe. All new songs except for yatahaze. I was loving it but other people were chanting DEFTONES which apparantly pissed off the bassist. The singer was cool though and they put on a great set, great drummer. Deftones were next here's the set-list in correct order(i believe) 1.Feit 2.Change 3.My Own Summer 4.Nosebleed 5.Hexagram 6.Around the Fur 7.RIckets 8.If Only Tonight We Could Sleep 9.RX Queen 10.Minus Blindfold 11.Bored 12.Engine #9 (w/ Wicked) 13.Root 14.7 Words (w/ full Say it Aint So) *Steph was too lazy to get off-stage and smokes a cig with the lights off* encore: 15.Minerva 16.Bloody Cape 17.Be Quiet and Drive Awesome show. Chino and the boys were really into it. I felt like it was back in 97-98 after they released around the fur. Also was suprised by the amount of songs they played in a row. I almost felt like i was listening to a live version of their CD's at points. Full say it aint so was a great top off. Might have been another song after 7 words before encore but i dont think so... Anyways, great show, best deftones show since 98. -D.F. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ive been hyped about this show from reading all the reviews claiming the deftones were on theyre "A" game performing some of the best sets ever, and to be honest with you they lived up to the hype i got there just in time for the show and i got to see dredg they were good i was just hoping they played some older stuff theyre whole set was basically new stuff nothing from el cielo at all they looked kinda worn out probably because of the negative responses they have gotten elsewhere but they were greated warmly. Enough about them on to the main event the deftones were just breathtakingly amazing believe the hype they were on a happier looking bunch of guys who really were excited about playing "my own summer" for the millionth time and making it feel like the first magical moment. alot of smiles from everyone in the band lots of crowd interaction the crowd was intense you can feel the energy all over the place. the highlights would probably be when they played say it aint so in the middle of seven words and minus blindfold the whole show was spectacular nothing more to say about it songs played not in order feiticera my own summer root be quiet and drive bloody cape rickets!!!!!! unbelievable so fucking awesome rx queen nosebleed bored minus blindfold hexagram engine no. 9/wicked 7 words/say it aint so if only tonight we could sleep minerva change i feel like im forgetting something but im just so hyped great show great crowd cant wait to see the deftones again! -Wilmer ------------------------------------------------------------------------ The starland ballroom is a very nice venue. Dredg opened up and played fantastic as I figured they would. They played all new material and one song off of their first EP. I was disappointed that they didn't play anything off of the el cielo album. But they played excellent and it seemed that a decent amount of people enjoyed it. Soon after, deftones came on. They played so good that I can honestly admit that their performance could be compared to how they have performed 8 years ago. I was absolutely astonished on how chino's voice sounded. It didn't sound strained like it has the past few times I have seen them. Chino also seemed like he cleaned himself up a bit as well. He was energetic and was on point. The rest of the band played great like always. What made this show better then the shows in the past 4 years was their song selection. This set list was blended to perfection, giving everyone a taste of everything. They played Rx queen which I personally have never ever heard live, and Abe did an excellent job playing the drums for this song. They played Rickets which was also a shocker. They played their 7 words/say it aint so medley, that is always nice to hear. They didn't play any new written music, which is fine because this show was definitely a flawless performance. Autopsy17@aol.com ---------------------------------------------------------------------- I got there early and waited forever for crappy dredg to come on. They sucked. Then i had to wait even longer for DEFTONES to come on. The wait was definitely worth it. The floor was packed tighter than a virgin vagina. I was with my girlfriend so after the first song, "Feiticeira", i had to get her off the floor. She couldn't handle it like a lot of the other girls. So i got her off the floor and made my way back into the crowd and stayed there for a good 5 songs. Then i got back off the floor to stay with my girlfriend. I thought in my head, " this is gonna suck being over here." But we made our way to the side of the stage near Chi Cheng. I had a pretty good view from there. In between songs it wasn't too loud so i started screaming "CHI CHENG!!!!" as loud as humanly possible and it got his attention. He looked at me, smiled and flashed me a peace sign. Then he threw a water bottle to me but i dropped it and someone else got it. The show went on being awsome as hell. Then they played bored and Chino came over to where we were standing. I was reaching out as much as i could and pat him on the knee but he wouldn't touch my hand. That's okay because the show was awsome. They played a lot of songs off of "Adrenaline". Chino started singing "Wicked" during "Engine No 9". And he started singing "say it ain't so" during "7 words" as usual. SICK CONCERT. THAT WAS #4 FOR ME. I CAN'T WAIT TILL 2005 SO I CAN HAVE 5 DEFTONES TICKET STUBS. jonathan vasquez
