Today I came just about straight out of Belgium were I saw the
Deftones the day before. I picked up a good friend of mine and went
to the show. He took the ticket I had which was for another good
friend of mine who couldn't make it due to family circumstances...
my thoughts go out to u Henny...
First though, we bought some food and some beers :)
We arrived at the venue about 6'ish. Stood around the busses for
some time before entering the venue. Security checked everyone
who entered. Understandable. Everything that holded
liqueds was removed from bags and clothing, and every audio related
material was inspected..."gently". Nice, very nice. Very anal.
We took a place in the large venue and noticed that I missed The
Revolution Smile AGAIN! Next time, in Düsseldorf, I'll be on time...
I promise :)
After A Perfect Circle's grand show Deftones took the stage.
They went into 'Minerva' followed by 'Bloody Cape' after which they
played 'Damone'!!! Very, very cool!
During the set Chino joked by asking how we were doing...Germany...
The crowd boo'ed, he smiled :)
My friend left early and I took him to the door.
When coming back, during 'Headup' I noticed that no other then Sly
left the stage. Chino offered the crowd to sing along on 'Headup'
and Sly replied.
The crowd cheered for 'Passangers' but they did not play that song.
They played 16/17 songs, I don't know the full setlist but these
were the songs they played;
Bored, 7 Words with Root in between were they play Weezer's 'Say It
Ain't So' sometimes, My Own Summer (Shove It), Around The Fur,
Be Quiet And Drive (Far Away), Headup, Damone, Feiticeira,
Digital Bath (?), Change (In The House Of Flies), Korea, Hexagram,
Minerva, Battle-Axe and Bloody Cape.
After the show I decided to have another peek at the busses.
After waiting a couple of hours talking to fellow fans Chi came
outside and greeted his fans. We had small talk and made a picture
with him :)
Sometime later Chino came out to greet and talk to the remaining
fans. I don't remember how, but the subject matter became the
Waldrock story. I clearly remember stating I would never ask
anything about that redundant story. But I did...d'oh!
I know how it went! He must think nobody knows!
That everyone thinks he was too drunk, instead of being knocked out.
Of all the things I could say...like
'thanks for the great music u guys make' or talking about music
in general I aksed about that...d'oh!
I also had a picture taken with him. No papers this time! HAH!
After which he went in.
Sometime later they all went for the busses and I was able to talk
to Stephen and Abe, and take pictures!
What a day! I hope they worked out well!
I want to take this oppertunity to thank Nick, Simon and his mom
for getting me home! MANY THANKS!!!!
Thanks to Deftones for a great show, for great music which I enjoy
in good and bad times! Till Düsseldorf!

This would become my 13th time seeing Deftones and also since this night 13
became my lucky number....
In the afternoon me and some friends were at the side of the hall were there was
a restaurant to have a drink. Were the bathroom was appeared to be a door to enter
the venue so me and my buddy were rude enough to see what was going on and went
inside. Stephen was doing soundcheck so we decided to watch that from the side.
He played the intro of 7 Words and Passenger. Later when we left the whole band was
rehearsing and I heard 7 Words, Bored and a guy I know said he heard them play
Needles and Pins.
Almost showtime. Deftones tourmanager Steve Kidd was standing just inside were me
and my friends entered the venue and I just said hi to him and he asked me how big
my party was. I said, "well I'm with these people" and he gave us 7 passes to enter
a special fan area in front of the stage! I thanked him gratefully and we went inside.
The Revolution Smile:
This band would do so much better in a smaller club. I have their first independant
release which sounds a bit like Quicksand, but tonight I thought they were sounding
more like Rival Schools. Don't know if that's good but overall they are a pretty good
band. It was a good short (not even 30
minutes) show but it didn't come across that well in this big hall. Me and my buddy
met Shaun Lopez of TRS (formerly of Far) in the afternoon and he was very nice and we
chatted a bit about all kinds of shit. Nice dude.
A Perfect Circle:
Sound was awesome. It seems it doesn't matter where they play cuz all I heard was they
sounded great and Deftones sounded awful, anywhere so far. Maynard was wearing his long
haired-wig as usual and making his weird moves and he was not facing the crowd. I could
not find a single false note. The whole band sounded awesome and they are just great.
The played for 40 minutes.
Deftones:
On the right side of the stage more people gattered to get into that fanarea and so did we.
We eventually ended up just right in front of Abe with Chi on our right side and Chino on
our left. Hahahaha I'm never jealous again of people who were in the Metallica snakepit
years ago! Our spot was awesome and we did not know where to look. I could see the whole
band perfectly apart from Frank but this spot was brilliant. Shame was we were not
allowed to take pictures.
The band came on and Chino and Steph were fiddeling on their guitars after which Chino
started playing the intro of Minerva. The show was on. I must say the sound was pretty
okay from where we were standing, cuz we heard a lot through the bands monitors.
I was there with 14 other fans in this small upclose fanarea! A surprise was to hear Damone.
Other than that the set was not really special and without any big surprises. After 2 songs
Chino said: Hello Germany on which the crowd booo-ed at him, Chi made fun of him and said
"Hello Rotterdam". They also played Around The Fur and during the break Chino played whith
some effectbox for his vocals which produced all kinds of strange noises. During the break
in Headup Chino asked who wanted to sing the rest of the song with him and since I was
so close I decided to try to get noticed and Chino saw me. He said "come here then" and
my friends helped me onstage. It was so amazing... Chino's mic-tech gave me Chi's mic to
sing in and the band was waiting for me to start the "When You Walk Into This World!" part.
I did so and the band hit in with me and Chino singing back and fwd "Walk into this world with
your head up high!". It was fucking great to scream "Head up-High" with him. At the end I
thanked Chi and Chino by giving them a hug and Chi said great job man as well did Chino. I
jumped down again into the fanarea. Great expierience!! I will never forget. This was the first
part and the band left short to come back for and encore. Here's the set in almost the right order:
Minerva
Bloody Cape
Damone
Be Quiet And Drive (Far Away)
My Own Summer (Shove It)
Bored
Digital Bath
Korea
Around The Fur
Mascara
Hexagram
Battle Axe
Headup

The Revolution Smile opened up, but they just didn't got the crowd going
through their set.
They played really good though, but everyone was just waiting for Deftones
and APC.
When APC entered the stage, alot of people started cheering and screaming
for them.
They played really good, and were just the perfect openers for the Deftones. Maynard sang the whole show on top of a platform, which first was covered
with sheets, so we could only see his shadow behind the sheets.
It was about 21.30 when the lights dropped and everyone started cheering and
screaming.
Then Chino and Stef walked onstage, followed by Frank,Chi and Abe. Chino shaked some hands of fans, before starting the intro to "Minerva". Everybody in the crowd was singing the chorus, so you just sometimes
couldn't hear Chino :)
The second song was "Bloody Cape", which just started an enormous moshpit.
Chino's vocals were from extreme great quality on this song, esspially the
last screams were great!
The third song was "BQAD", Chino sang it great, and everyone was singing
along, he ended the song with the screeching screams.
The fourth song was a welcome suprise for me, since "Damone" is my favourite
song all time!!!
"Damone" just rocked as fuck, and Chi's backing vocals were loud and heavy
as fuck!!!
After "Damone" was done, Stef started with the riff of "MOS" and Chino
climbed down the stage and went on top of the fans.
This song just rocked and Chino's screams were great and really aggressive. After this song, Chino climbed back on stage and Stef started "Bored". This
was one of the classics that the crowd was waiting for, cuz just everyone in
the arena sang along with it. Chino also sang "Clint Eastwood" during this
song.
After "Bored" I forgot the exact order of the following songs, for a moment,
but I do know that they played these songs:
Digital Bath
Mascara
Around the Fur
Korea (with massive moshpit)
Battle-Axe (Great song, with Chino singing perfect)
Hexagram (Chino came back in the crowd, and stopped exactly for me!!!, I got
to be his helping hand during this song, cuz he grabbed my hand so he
wouldn't fall over. This was just amazing and has to be my most coolest
moment during this concert, I was just inches away from him, and he even
thanked me after the song, for helping him staying up)
They then started "Headup", which Chino introduced by telling everyone that
they co-wrote the song with some singer from a band called Sepultura, that
was now in Soulfly :). After he said this line, the whole crowd exploded and
started cheering and screaming.
This song was just amazing and Sly from DutchDeftones (I think) got to sing
the "Walk into this world-part" onstage with Chino)
They then all left the stage, except for Stef who stayed onstage. They returned and started
doing an encore with "Feiticeira" and then they
played "Change" This was a highlight of the show, cuz everyone was singing
along and this song just came out great!
They ended the show with "7words" which was played in two parts.
7Words was played like this-> 7Wordspart1__ROOT__7wordspart2 This was one of the best and most
intense shows that I've seen by the
Deftones!!!
Deftones, The Biggest Fukin' Band in the World!!!

3-BQAD
4-Damone

Here's my review of the dutch part of the tour. Which can be very short. I "missed" the opening
band revol..smile or something like that. The buzz in the stadium was that they sucked, but i
can't confirm the rumour. so when the lights went out and a perfect circle hit the stage i was
a bit overwhelmed( 'cause i was expecting to see revo..smile!). But quickley regained consciusness
and made way to the front of the audience. WHat a great band!! great riffs great drums great players
and off course great lead singer!!!! I had goosebumps all over!!!! Maynard and gang were rocking!!!
1 hour of pure enlightenment!! than deftones. Did i mention it was going to be a short review??
well i walked out of the concert after 3 songs because those bastards were to drunk and stoned
to give a flying fuck about their audience!!!! what a poor performance!!! bad sound and bad skills!!!
if any one enjoyed this concert he (or she) is out of their minds and should be institutionalised!!!
I've seen then 4 times before and they keep getting worse all the time!!! sorry but i used to be a
great fan but it's over between the deftones and me!!!!

Rotterdam 21st of September.
I really liked the performance Deftones gave this evening. Chino joked around saying:
hello Germany.. I think Chi said it correctly: hello Rotterdam.. that was funny It was my
first Deftones show. The pit was real nice too. Got some bruises, it was fun. I was
amazed to see a lot of girls at the show. Chino's voice is amazing. The band was in a good
mood and gave us real rock. they started with minerva. i don't know the entire setlist, but they
played:
Be Quiet And Drive
My Own Summer
Minerva
Hexagram
Bored
Engine No. 9
Battle Axe
Bored
Anniversary Of An Uninteresting Event (which was great!!) Around the Fur (the crowd was real
loud there)
after the break they played: (i think)
change
head up, with a guy from the audience.. (he did great!)
and 7 words, which lasted long!
A great evening, a great show.

This was gonna be my 5th time i was going to see them. I allready had see
and saw them at Pinkpop festival, The Netherlands right after the album
Deftones was released. That show rocked!! so i knew the new the show and new
album would sound great.
Before the show started the picked several ppl out of the audience and put
them in a special spot next to Chino. Chino on stage they next to him on the
floor. When i they came on they just looked as confident as always and they
where gonna kick some as that night.
I can't remember the entire setlist so don't know what they kicked of with.
cauze from the beginning i was all ear to the concert and the expierence it
brought (no time to think in terms what is the setlist).
The sound wasn't that great the drums and vocal (of chino) where to soft
wich was really ashame so you coudn't here his great scream on songs like 7
words, Bloody Cape, Head up. But Deftones still rocked the house of. They
went for it and you could feel it. Chino came and hang above the audience
about 3 times and once almost got pulled in. when the end came near he said
one more song... 7 words combined with root.... that was like the perfect
end for a great deftones show.
setlist as far as i can rember in no particular order... and missing some i
think.
7 Words
Root
Head up
Change (In The House Of Flies)
Bored
My Own Summer (Shove It)
Be Quiett & Drive
Hexagram
Bloody Cape Minerva

21 sept me and my deftonic mate Simon finaly got to see the Deftones! We arrived at
3.00 pm so we could get a spot up front. Dudes were already sitting near the doors so
we dicided to join them, but the idea that the deftones were already inside made us
dicide to take a look arround. Then Sly from dutchdeftones.com called me and I met him
to trade some shit and pay him for stuff he send me... They told us that they already
got inside to see the deftones do there soundcheck thing! I was fucking jealous! As we
walkt around the building we could hear the soundcheck trough fantilation shafts and it
sounded fucking cool! Then we saw the tour busses and the Artist entrance and when we got
there Mainard from a Perfect circle was outside to talk to some fans! Simon gabbed his
camera to take a pic but security guys started screaming: "Put the camera away! Don't take
pictures!!!" (O yeah... I forgot... He's afraid for pictures...) Then we saw Chino
walk by followed by Abe! Simon grabbed his camera again but a big dangerous looking guy
(I'll call him Big daddy,) came out and kicked us out! Later we got back with sly and we
saw the frontman from a Revolution Smile, he was pretty cool but we had to get back because
we wanted to stand up front.
When the doors opend we ran straid to the fence, we got a great spot up front!
Then, a Revolution smile started to play, I first thougt that they would suck but they were
awsome! The crowd in the front was pretty much boring except for me, simon and a German dude
who had seen them in Belgium the other day. During one song he reconiced us from earlier
that day and pointed at us and stuck up is thum! I'll definatly buy there cd!
Then, when they played half an hour, a Perfect Circle came up! There music was fucking cool
altough I think the frontman is a dick, the press only got to make pictures during the first
two songs and Mainard was behind a big screen ,or something, during the first song and
during the rest of the set he covered his head with his arms... Is he allergic to the
flashes or lences or something?? After they played there show they immidiatly left.
Dude! What about your fans??
Then after we waited about half an hour (can't remeber exactly) The lights went out and
against a red curtan Steph and Chino (you could only see two silhouettes) started playing
Minerva, and the crowd goes wild! Altough the sound was really bad (some times you couldn't
here what Steph was playing) everybody was singing along and jumping up and down, I still got
bruises on my body! i can't remeber the order in witch they played the songs but I do
remember them!
it was something like this:
Minerva
Bloody cape
Hexagram
Battle- axe
Korea
Feiticeira
Digital bath
Change
My own summer
Around the fur
BQAD
Damone (It was cool cause they don't play that one much!)
Mascara
Head up
7 words part 1
Root
7words part 2
Bored (with the clint eastwood cover!)
During My own summer, Chino went of stage to stand in the crowd. Everybody went crazy
and Simon was shooting pics like hell! Chi was going wild with his Bass guitar and jumped
all over the stage, it gave me so much energy and I screamed my lungs out (I still can't
talk!) During hexagram Chino again jumped of the stage and walked our way! We all grabbed
him so he wouldn't fall and he screamed in to my face! When he put his head down a bit
everybody grabbed him and pulled him into the crowd! yep, the crowd went wild! he just kept
singing as the security pulled him out!
When they played Head up Chino asked the fans if somebody wanted to sing the song on stage,
and yes, Sly "the dutchdeftone guy" got picked up! "Give that guy a mike!" Sly did a pretty
good job and I think it's really cool for him, he's a big fan and it's a great honor to do
such a thing for 6000 people!!!
They closed the set with Change and we couldn't believe it was over...
Steph dumped some picks in the crowd and Simon got one.
I was a bit angry because I didn't got any backstage passes and I really wanted to meet them
(I had a frontstage pass but because I had only one and I was with Simon I gave it to the Big
daddy...) But a security guy told us to go to the tour busses so we could meet them over there!
When we got there, Sly + some other fans where allready waiting near the door but the security
pushed us back and we had to stay like 50 meters from the door (can't remeber exactly.)
And after we waited an hour, almost everybody left, the only fans that where still waiting
where a cool guy named Martin (or Tuck,) me, simon, 2 english girls and 2 americans.
Then Chi came out! He was really cool and we took some pics and he signed stuff! After
we talked a while he had to leave and I asked him if the other members would come out.
yep! there was Chino! He was fucking cool! he is a verry nice guy, and told us again about
the waldrock fest, we took pics and I got my Minerva 7" signed! We talked a while about the
gig and then he went back to the after party with the two americans... Should have told him
that I was american to or something!
The Big daddy was also outside and this time he was really cool, maybe because we took time
waiting so long just to meet the band?
The busses started to run and Steve Kidd was preparing to leave so Steph and Abe came out
the building and I got to talk with them! But I missed frank (...)
When the bus drived away and I sudenly reminded myself to ask a pick from steph! Damn! Too
late...
Nick and Simon
