Third and final night of seeing Deftones live at the TOC. This time my boy and I drove 140 miles from western Mass. down to Poughkeepsie, NY. Cool venue, a big auditorium with bleacher seats in the back and a wide stage. The place was packed with all the folks from NYC. Interesting to see Chino and the fellas 3 straight nights, comparisons can and are drawn. I hate to say anything less than stellar about my favorite band, but they definitely were a bit sloppy this night. They did not attempt either new song, which is a bummer because those songs fucking shred and I was looking forward to hearing them again (all in good time). I'll chalk part of their sloppiness up to shitty sound engineering, the bass was way the fuck up and kept reverberating and drowning the rest of the band out. Other than that it was pretty clear that some excessive partying had occurred. Shit, they are only human and we all cut loose sometimes and let our favorite vices get a grip on us, so what the hell I say! They still brought the mother fucker down and gave the rowdy crowd some good memories. Now I have to stop and rant here for a bit about the lame bitches in the pit - yes you if you're reading this - if you think you're a real tough badass by standing on the edge of the pit and then running out and pushing some little kids to the floor, the fact is you're not, you are a big fucking pussy. I've spent 20+ years in the pit (no lie), and it's a good and beautiful way to reflect the energy from bands that charge you up, but the idea is to have fun, not kill people. Bullies are just little boys full of fear really. Ok, enough of that, the bottom line is it is always a good night when the biggest band in the world hits the stage, and the Deftones got some legs under them by the middle and finished hugely strong with a crazy flurry from Adrenaline. Fuck yeah! Setlist as near as we could remember: Feiticeria My Own Summer Nosebleed (yes, same as previous nights) Minerva BQAD Around the Fur RxQueen (with Street Drum Corps) Bloody Cape Hexagram Change Engine #9 (awesome!) 7 Words (part1) + Root + 7 Words (part2) DannySlam ------------------------------ Like the last guy said, it took them a while to warm up or maybe I was having trouble warming up, its hard to tell when the sound isn't so great. This made the show seem shorter than it was even and by the end I didn't want it to end. I was absolutely in the zone. They're fucking top notch and seeing them headline those other bands was like watching the pins set up and then a bowling bowls blows them into the next lane. The venue was a decent set up (besides the sound). There was something impersonal about this performance maybe because they were playing for a crowd that didn't entirely come to see them. All in all I could have seen a show like this for the next few nights though and still enjoyed it. There were no new songs, fuckers, guess I'l have to wait longer. Juno
