"White Pony " Meanings

BACK TO SCHOOL

Being someone in life is the kind of advice Chino gives on “Back to School”, and the solution is school So why don't you run back to school! If we want to be someone in this life we gotta have brains and school is the place Now grab a notebook and a pen Start taking notes But remember to study and not to play with it Behind the walls Smoking' cigarettes and sipping' vodka Don’t waste your life, every second is more important than you think it is Who ruined it? You did! If you got brains you’ll dispense a lot of irrelevant people on your future life Not that you need them - cause you don't Everyone could be the coolest guy in the world!!! We are the leaders of it all So cool we could even appear in the news All you are, Now I'm on the next page But for all this we gotta accurate our personality Transpose...Or stop your lies It’s a hard way to perfection
- BY NUNO ROLINHO

Back to schools about everyone in highskool thinking there the shit no matter what "class" (jock, nerd, pot head) and how if you imagine your the shit and strive for it and make decisions that people respect you will be the shit and will lead people and he's just looking back on school and telling everyone try to do your best while your in the positions your in and make the best of em and strive to be the leader
- BY TAP750@aol.com

Back to school isn't about school at all. The whole taking notes thing is just a metaphor. It's a f**k you to all the bands that stole their sound. The song itself is a return to the rap-metal genre that they helped create and then surpassed. It's like they're saying see, we still do this better than all of you, hense "We are the leaders..."
- BY Nathan Adams

Nathan, you're a smart guy. I always hoped the Deftones made this one typical nu-metal song to show they can make such songs too but they just don't want it. In a way, I never made the link between the music and the lyrics, although it is really obvious. Chino says to all these copycats: 'Go back to school and learn how to make their own music a second time' "Stop that, quit! - All that, quit! Who ruined it? You did!" -> Chino created a new genre, but they made rubbish of it "Now grab a notebook and a pen Start taking notes, I'm being everyone who's on the top" -> "I'll show you once more how to do it" You think we're on the same page - but, oh we're not! -> "You think you're doing the same as we're doing, but that's a big mistake"
- BY tomas_vandoorne@hotmail.com

Let's start with the heavy tone of the song. it sounds angry. i don't think these guys liked school very much. there is some angst involved there. it seems they never wanted to be like the people that they went to school with. the line that sticks out to me in the song besides the title is "transpose, or stop your lies, is what you do". the line to me means "change or stop being a fake and phony". an anthem of non-conformity, if you will.akes me believe it is cyber in some way. and the longing is love. maybe? it is a surreal song none the less.

FEITICEIRA

Chino said that “this song was named after a brazilian female, but it’s lyrically about a kidnapping scenario” and that’s what we can see. This brazilian female is a sex-symbol in Brazil because she makes men suffer. A woman kidnapping a man it’s unusual in nowadays but in “Feiticeira” it happened Untie me for now He’s arrested by this girl, she’s a kind of psycho or something Soon I'll let you go She should be strong than a normal man Buckled! ...but I'm on my knees And she took a good average over him, I think she used violence my jaw and my teeth hurt God! What a psycho she even forced him for a photo session of them together The machines take pictures of us He’s so hopeless, he thinks that he’ll never get rid of her The police stopped chasing She takes him everywhere, over and over move to the back of the car She’s so crazy about him, but she’s mad and got contradictory thoughts Well I hope soon, she sang And she’s not the one to trust You said you would right, and you were right She’s like an animal, she need fresh meat I'M HER New...Cool...Meat He tries to use blackmail against her, he said that he would join her if she releases him First untie me Then if she releases him he would became in what she’s right now New murderer But that’s only a lie to escape form her claws, but anyways it all ends Soon this will be all over
- BY NUNO ROLINHO

He's describing a kidnapping with him as the victim. He's gagged and tied up with "...from gnawing on the ball" reprisenting a ball-gag. He starts pleading to be let out and trying to get free "untie me for now."
- BY MUTAURWA

This song is not about an actual kidnapping, its a metaphor for how he feels. He's in a relationship with this girl and he wants out, but she won't let him go. The camera symbolises how she thinks its forever, a picture lasts forever, but he doesn't want it to be, yet shes trying to persuade him to her point of view "she makes me touch the machine". Basically he feels trapped, likes he's been kidnapped, and while she promises to let him go she has no plan on it. Hes trying desparately to get out of it "now my jaw and my teeth hurt...from gnawing on teh ball," but he hasn't managed to yet.
- BY mc_colman@hotmail.com

This is what I gather from the song: First off, he was abducted, drugged and thrown in a trunk by some woman. The only thing he can hear is the police sirens (they must have saw her in the act of kidnapping him, or something). Once the kidnapper loses the police, he realizes he's screwed. Next, the trunk pops open and she removes him, but she's not alone. There's a man with her. He is taking photographs of the two. He's strong and tall. The machine and the kidnapper drag Chino to somewhere where they can tie him up. They force him to do sexual things. As far as the rest "You said you were right." and "First, Untie me for now", I'm not exactly sure.

DIGITAL BATH

One of the most romantic songs ever! It really makes people thinking about love and all around it, simply great. The chorus is so celestial, Chino’s voice is up far from other voice in this world TONIGHT I FEEL LIKE MORE Yeah! Something really cool happened that night, they were so happy on that night, I think they made sex You breathed then you stop, I breathed and drive you off She’s so perfect You move like I want to She’s all he asked for, she's compared to some kind of a supernatural or an alien girl You taste foreign All he wants is to stay alone with her We are...downstairs Where no one can see A place where no one could disturb them...
- BY NUNO ROLINHO

This song, to me, tells of how someone murders someone by electrocution. The manner of homicide, as you can tell from the title of the song, is by placing some type of electrical appliance into a bathtub full of water. Excellent song, since it captures the murderers feelings coming off as romantic in a stituation where it should be anything but.
- BY SlipknotFiendsic@aol.com

I have a new theory behind the song digital bath after things that have happened to me.To be blunt i think it is about kissing. Kissing for the first time."you move like i want to" he or she is not as good because it is their first time. "new life break away" every thing has changed for he/she, first kisses. "Tonight i feel like more" theres that want for more kissing. " You taste foreign" she tastes different to him/she, obviosly a dicovery you make
- BY Tom Child

Digital Bath is about a death by like a toaster falling into a bath....hence digital bath. The song is meant to throw you of by its sound...it can be taken romantically but in the end it's all about killing someone. This song truly shows the beauty and depth of Chino's songs...the song is artwork. Throwing you off like that takes a genious. Digital Bath can only be described as chillingly romantic, and seems like the killer kills in the name of love.
- BY MyOwNdRuMmEr10@aol.com

i get a great feeling of longing from this song. wanting something but not haveing it. i think it's about maybe cybersex. not having the real thing but still wanting more of it. as far a murder in the bath , i think they would have called the song electrical bath if that was the case. it is the word itself "digital" that makes me believe it is cyber in some way. and the longing is love. maybe? it is a surreal song none the less.
- BY gdog2000@peoplepc.com

Digital Bath (along with the entire White Pony album) is a made up scenario. It's about Chino bathing a woman then electricuting her and drying her off and putting her clothes back on. "We are downstairs where no one can see new life breakaway....... I know you can see the cord breakaway.......you breathed, then you stopped. I breathed and dried you off....." Chino says himself in a guitar world magazine that this is exactly what the song is about.
- BY iammatt3@juno.com

My lyrical understanding of this song comes largely from my ex-girlfriend; I don't intend to take credit for these ideas. This is a song about attempted intimacy in a world where two people can never really become one. We are fundamentally alone. Every person is limited to their own life, their own little window into existence. We can never truly understand anything except by relating it to ourselves. In order to have any understanding of other people, we must first assume that they are similar to ourselves. We assume that they have thoughts running through their head just as we do, simply because they have a similar physical form and behave in a similar way. But we never really know if they are real; it is entirely possible to the lone observer that all that which he observes is a figment of his imagination. The only thing that one ever truly knows is real is ones own thoughts. Therefore in order to feel any closeness to something outside of ourselves, we need to internalize it somehow. We need to make it seem as though it is a part of us. In this, the body becomes an extension of the mind, simply because we have such a firm association of it with ourselves. There exists philosophical/psychological work, which I am not familar with, on the Theory of Food which I think explores our desire to devour things out of affection, to consume them into ones own body. This is all highly relatable to human relationships and sex. One can examine the physical act of sex itself; it is an attempt at union between two separate entities by physical means. Sexual consummation is a mutual consumption of each person by the other one. At this point I simply cannot put it in better words than those of my ex-girlfriend: "I would say that I probably identify in an unconscious way with the idea that you wish to destroy your partner in sex. I guess cos maybe that's the only way to merge. But in digital bath, there is such sublime restraint. Methodical annihilation. The ecstasy is more intense because you are denying yourself that consummation. The way he dresses her in her clothes afterwards. Imagine the quiet of those moments. As if in destroying her he made her, created her [as his own]. Maybe he made her cos he dominated her. It's the frustration of being human, always condemned to slide across the impenetrable exterior of another. Two surfaces winding around one another, the closest they can get to union being convolution." Digital bath is an exploration of this inherent human darkness, which makes the highest form of intimacy be the methodical destruction of one's partner.
- BY Chris Wilson

Ok, not to say that anyone is wrong, but i see too much similarity in how you point to all chino's lyrics. love, murder, breakups, and rape. along with similar topics. I feel that the song "digital bath" actually points to humans and society itself. People tend to take part in the stupidest pleasures to pass the time, just because they are human. despite what the lyrics point to, i'd say chino is just dissing on people in general. we are always longing after something we can't have, and we will do the stupidest things and take an active role in the stupidest activities to pass the time, to try to satisfy this beast that gnaws at our minds. I also can't say who's right here, because i've never seen a solid source for the lyrics (like on the band site or in a booklet with the cd), but i think that chino says "i feel like a bore tonight" which is to say, again, that we are often always bored, or boring, and searching for that thing to resolve our boredom. people go through cyber sex, masturbation, real life sex, drugs, hurting others, hurting themselves physically and mentally, and other pointless roles in other activities that can be so stupid, just to fill that hole in the human core.

ELITE

For the ones that criticize Deftones for being so romantic and for having many calm songs, here it is a big def-metal-finger to those hypocrites. “Elite” is so heavy! And it really had to be, because it is a social critic to leaders and one-men show. It shows that those kind of people will never be happy and they wont stay a long time around here When you're ripe You'll bleed out of control Someday they will fall down Confused, You'll know when you're ripe But after all they will start to see themselves as people and will try to get some affection You like attention , it proof to you you're alive But they gotta stop with their bad feelings But I lost my taste Stress is possessing their bodies You're into depression Cause it matches your eyes That’s fatal! They are sad people with sad minds
- BY NUNO ROLINHO

My interpretation to elite is the song is about girls going through puberty and getting pms. "when you're ripe you'll bleed out of control"... when they hit puberty they get pms, and bleed in a way i don't really wanna think about...
- BY ANONYMOUS

About how depression in a rock stars life has become trendy, that even people with happy lives have tried to play up this angle, when it only
takes away the impact from people with real problems. "You're into Depression, Cause it matches your eyes/Stop this faux to be famous"
- BY BEN RONEY-YEAGER

I believe it is about a person who is shy and doesn't live up to his potential until one day he realizes every thing he can do in life, and starts doing everything he can. via the lines " When your ripe you'll bleed out of control" Eventually he becomes wealthy and famous, and wants more of it. via the lines " you like attention it's proof to you you're alive" and "you're pregnant with all this, space thick with honey". But people are starting to forget him and he's feeling lonely and depressed. "you're into depression cause it matches you're eyes". He tries to become know again but everyone is sick of him in the end, "stop
this faux to be famous".
- BY DEATHWIND

This song is all about the famous is today's world. When you're ripe, you'll bleed out of control. All the goodness and originality will bleed out of you; the people you want to please will eat you up and beg for more. They'll drink you up until they're sick. These famous people love the attention, it lets them know their lives aren't fake. They constantly try to come up with a new angle to keep public attention. Then, at the height of their popularity, they are thick with honey, content to be the same. Then people begin to lose the taste; they don't love them anymore. They become "depressed" because it's the cool thing to do, it's a lie to keep the attention. The world ends up eating them alive, taking them for all they're worth, and leaving them with nothing. They bleed out and die.
- BY The Boy

I think Elite is one of the most awesome songs ever, and it has a deep meaning. Do demonstrate WHEN YOU'RE RIPE YOU BLEED OUT OF CONTROL I use a plum, or peach or orange--something juicy. You taste it in December and it's dry and unjuicy, but then you wait a while and you try it in July, and it's really juicy and ripe and delicious. But it's too ripe, the plum's juice (or blood) gushes out. Now the juice is all over you. I think the Deftones use this metaphor because it can happen with people also. When you're great or ripe or prime or the best, YOU BLEED OUT OF CONTROL-- you have a lot to lose. It's creepy in a way, because YOU'LL KNOW WHEN YOU'RE RIPE.
- BY Reneg8ofFunk@aol.com

I think this song is about frustration, possibly during adolscence, and about the way girls manipulate and flaunt themselves. 'When you're ripe, you'll bleed out of control' is, obviously, about puberty and periods, the first stage in this. 'You like attention, it's proof to you you're alive,' is about all their attention seeking. 'Stop parading your angles' is about showing off their bodies; again, flaunting themselves. The line 'You're pregnant with all this space, thick with honey, but I've lost my taste' seems to me to be about pheremones and scents, but because of their personalities, he's not attracted to them any longer. 'You're into depression, cause it matches your eyes' is probably about cries for help in the form of false depression and dressing up in a gothic style, or 'fashionably' sultry. Finally, 'Stop! The faux to be famous' would mean 'Stop lying to get attention.'

RX QUEEN

Another X girl, after Mx it’s time for Rx. The “R”, I think it’s the initial letter of her name, the same with the “M” in Mx. A part of him is so safe that she’s his girl 'Cus your my girl and that's alright But his other side is unconfident about her and he starts to pursuit her, day by day to see if she has a secret lover I wont stop following you He starts to use imaginary things to show her how big is their love We'll stop to rest on the moon, We'll make fire He even steals for her I'll steal a carcass for you She’s his virus, a kind of love virus Then feed off the virus But this virus could be a malign one if things get worst I hear crying Weird things could happen after this love You turn a newborn baby blue
- BY NUNO ROLINHO

It's about his wife and the fact that from the moment he saw her he wanted to be with her. he tracked her down and no one could take his mind off of her. "cuz you're my girl and that's alright/if you sting me i wont mind" is saying she could've done practically anything to him and it wouldn't have phased him cuz he was in love. "we'll stop to rest on the moon and we'll make fire/i'll steal a carcass for you then feed off the virus" he would do anything for her even die for her. pretty much the song goes through the stages of their relationship how in the beginning they were the bomb couple and no one could bring them down and now there isn't much left anymore "now we're all the virus" that it all went to hell and he doesn't know what to do anymore.
- BY MAGGIE HAAG

We know RX has to do with prescriptions so I thought that this song could be about an old man that realies on his medication so much that he begins to love it. He doesn't mind if it hurts him or if he ODs and dies. In the end of the song the part "and I hear crying, you turned new born baby blue" means that he has run out of medication and feels very depressed ala blue.
- BY DEATHWIND

I just read about one person saying that the song related to his wife, and that's sad. i actually had no clue about that. but i did have an insight as to what this song means: this man's love for his partner is so great he doesn't care about how badly she hurts him. she IS his prescription queen, the drugs that make him feel good, even though she "stings" he doesn't care, in a way he's addicted to her. the pain is nothing in comparasion to the amazing feeling he gets when he's with her. Rx Queen = the drug to make all your pains disapear.
- BY Ruby Gomez

I heard in an interview that Chino doesn't like to talk about Rx Queen because its about his wife. I heard that Chino's wife is diagnosed with AIDS and that's were the "virus" lines come from. "If you sting me, I wont mind", this is saying that he doesn't care if his wife infects him because he loves her. This is strictly based on speculation that its true that his wife has aids...

STREET CARP

An easy one! See he met this girl…but I think that he was a bit stoned or drunk 6-6-4…Oh! I forget They met each other and it seems it was love at first sight It’s not like I care…truly. But YOU'RE that girl… He gave his address Here’s my new address... And they kissed So write it down, now that you get a kiss! But it looks that he was really stoned, because only at the third time he remembered his own address, of course it was a new one but…I still think he got a lot of fun that night 6-6-5 OH…I confess
- BY NUNO ROLINHO

I think Street Carp is about a girl who treated Chino really shitty, and finally he got tired of it. "Here's my new address, 6-6-4.... OH! I forget!" - The song is basically in a sarcastic tone, where he's about to give her his new address, but conveniently *forgets* it.
- BY icouldfloathereforever@hotmail.com

This song has one real meaning but it is interlaced with a lot of hidden references to Hell. This song is about abandonment and the numbers 6-6-4 and 6-6-5 reference a countdown to his own personal torment by this abandonment. It is about a person who was really involved in his life but now is gone and he is having trouble dealing with it. "With sharp teeth" is a reference to hurt, Sharp, caused by this person, the teeth,. "with gold teeth" is a reference to a fight about money probably fighting about money. The whole effect of "here's my address..." and then forgetting is more of what the person who abandoned said to him. The kiss part could be more of that person patronizing his hurt.
- BY jnixon@eng.utoledo.edu

GRABS AT THE WALLS AND PULLS MEAT DOWN maybe this song points to how desperate and obsessive girls can seem sometimes and how the opposite sex is facinated with this cat and mouse idea, how to women some times men are objects to be used, "pieces of meat" HERES MY NEW ADRESS 6-6-4 OH I FORGET... he hates her persistiveness but loves the feelings he gets from rejectiong her THERES SOME NEW EVIDENCE NOW TAKE IT HOME RUN WITH IT...she takes his words as an offering to continue his game for getting attention, she is like an obsessed fan that takes a lock of their favorite artists hair and imagines being with them and this keeps that sick "relationship" alive

TEENAGER

A not corresponded love. She changed her away and his feeling so bad about it Now I'm through with a new you She’s another person and he really tries to get into her but she doesn’t give a damn about him I climbed your arms and you pulled away He keeps giving examples of how much he did to win her love…but no way I drove you home then you moved away He’s so hurt with her New cavity moved into my heart today She was his reason for being here The more she sings the more it seems He’s about to loose everything even is self-esteem The more I scream the more it seems
- BY NUNO ROLINHO

I have experienced something almost along the lines of this song before and (with the rest of the album) it is my favorite deftones music. this is about highschool romance i believe. this kid has a mojor crush on this girl but she just isn't noticing him, and when she finally does it isn't in the same way as he had hoped. i climbed your arms and you pulled away, sounds like she led him to believe that it could happen then said get lost your not what i thought you were. he's trying to convince himself that he can get over her,"now i'm through, with following you" but inside he relly can't. that's my take anyway maybe you see it maybe you don't.
- BY JEREMY WILLIAMS

This song to me, is about this guy who really loves this girl, but this girl is so afraid of live she is running away from it, and by her doing this he is losing his hope in love too, and he is getting bitter in his heart and is ready to give up on her.
- BY ROSE

I believe this song is about losing someone to the change of status. It is what being a teenager is all about, choosing a lifestyle. I think this is what he is talking about when he says he doesn't like the "new you". So basically he tried to love a girl, but the girl probably shunned him for another circle of friends. In turn, the 'narrator' of the song disliked her.
- BY WILL

Basically, is the tipical teenager relationship, that means the girl is some insecure, so she begins to reject him, and he feels so bad and so sad. My actual situation is like the song, 'cuz she lives rejectin' me and I'm here, so sad, but we know we had eachother and no matter the situation....

KNIFE PRTY

“Knife Party” shows how deep love can be. Suicide it’s the main target My knife it's sharp and chrome come see inside my bones It talks about being sick of life 'Cause in here we're all anemic We’re all a bunch of weak in here anemic AND SWEET So why keep on living? Go get your knife, go get your knife and lay down But there’s one problem…there’s someone important in here, it would be just perfect if she was here... Go get your knife, go get your knife now kiss me Both in the same trip, the happiest man and the perfect woman I'm the new king, I'll take the queen Death doesn’t’ matter! What really counts it’s being with her I can float here forever And of course dead people can’t feel and can’t touch In this room we can't touch the floor
- BY NUNO ROLINHO

Well, I have a really weird interpretation of this song...but it's just what I think about when I hear it. For me this song is like a relief, it helps me to calm down. It's obvious that the song talks about suicide but I don't think it talks about a sad type of suicide. Chino talks about suicide in a happy way, in a very soft way...almost as it was something beautiful. It's like cutting your wrists but there's no pain...As the blood stains the bed, the floor you start to feel relieved. It's like all the shit that was inside you, all those things that poissoned your life are getting out of you...You're dying but you don't care, you feel no pain...and beside you is the person you love the most in this whole world, feeling the same way you do. I know my interpretation of this song it's really weird but I don't feel like cutting my wrists and i'm not some kind of sadomasochist! But I love this song and I have this strange feeling about it...
- BY JOANA REIS

Perhaps about a sadomasochistic desire for two lovers to cut each other during intercourse, probably to heighten the experience to newlevels, be it pleasureful or painful.
- BY BEN RONEY-YEAGER

I figure its a commentery on the state of society. He's porteaying a totally hedon all he does is party and get stoned "we can't touch the floor". The other side of it is within the party it's all sex and violence, he starts feeling the extasy of it all "I'm the new king" and shows his anxious ness for the violence he's
loving "go get your knife"
- BY MUTAURWA

Always if I hear Knife Prty I never thought about things like suicide or something like that. One time I read something about this song, Chino discribed it like that: “It isn’t bad, neither it’s brutal. It’s a dance with knives. Not right, but it makes so much fun. Pushing The Limits, you know?”. For me it’s like a party, where he’s the king and he has his girl and she’s the queen but just they know it. It’s clear for them, they are livin in their own world and “float” in other atmospheres and maybe it discribes sorrow, too. To my mind he’s maybe sick and they can’t be in the air, nor at the ground. They are just two lovers, who connect something special and I think at the end of the song – “I could float here forever” – he or both find their place to be.
- BY CHRISTIN M.

I'm almost positive that "knife party" is about going to a shooting gallery (a place where people go to inject themselves with drugs). In the first line they say MY KNIFE IS SHARP AND CHROME. A chrome knife is another name for a syringe used for injecting drugs into your bloodstream. COME SEE INSIDE MY BONES. This line is probably talking about injecting himself. Oooh...well I can float here forever. This line is describing getting high. The other lines in the song all work with the same theme as well.
- BY Skip7000@aol.com

Knife Party is obviously about a cocaine dealer: "white pony" is infact a highgrade cocaine, "white china" would be fentanyl (which is basically strong heroin) first off the knife is the razor blade "come see inside my bones" could mean he wants a connection with the girl in the song or it could be "bones" interpreted as joints (look inside my joints they're laced with coke) either way "all of the fiends are on the block" is easy: all the drug fiends are on/around the sidewalk. "i'm the new king" cocaine (or a mixture of coke with something) will make you feel incredibly powerful and strong... plus the fact that all the fiends i'm assuming are buying from him. "i'll take the queen" he "takes" the beautiful girl he wants for his sexual partner for the night. "in here we are anemic" cocaine done for days on end will deplete your iron and make you anemic (scientifically proven) "anemic and sweet" i'm thinking the reason he's feeling the "sweetness" is because he's combined the coke with some other entheogen that makes him feel lovey perhaps some MDMA (a roll) this of coarse would make a dangerous drug combo but i've know lot's of people to do it. "i could float here forever, in this room, we can't touch the floor!" floating is a typical drug reaction but specifically with LARGE doses of cocaine you will sometimes feel taller than you are and then sometimes can't really feel/ feel detached from the floor. "now kiss me" okay now they are coked up and rolling so they kiss and cuddle and have sex. then all the screaming noises that follow are respresentitive of the ecstatic rushing feelings they are getting from taking another rail of coke, and laying beside each other in bed. but this is just my opinion. my friend bobby used to be a coke dealer and he has experianced allot of these phenomena and at this time in his life we would just end up at somebodies home late at night rooms full of people he'd deal the shit out and then fuck any (or however many) girls he wanted there... he once had sex with 3 different girls in one night. (sepperately, not at the same time) also we'd listen to allot of deftones and outkast. this song doesn't have to be just about coke though, it's about love, and sex and eargasms. i infact have had multiple eargasms/bodygasms of pure rushing pleasure as a result of mixing this song with drugs... some of my happiest most intense moments of life have happened during the screaming part.... this song changed/destroyed me. it is a religious work, a masterpiece, the ultimate.

KOREA

It’s hard to explain “Korea” it looks like a bunch of mixed words with no special order. Maybe “Korea” talks about women that pass the day on the street (prostitutes) Nighttime! CAVITY! TO COME IN! I think it’s all about prostitutes, Chino also mentioned leather and as you know prostitutes use leather and red leather is so unusual in a "normal" person Of white skin on red leather Prostitutes also use fake nails CHECK the claws we got And they spend much of their time downtown, where costumers are much more Downtown! And in downtown they’ve to protect their own zones and make it as lucrative as they can, just like a regular shop Work your pitch! Sex is represented by the word pony (the up and down movement) sex looks like a worse ride Pony! In daytime, some are striptease dancers Daytime! Dancer! But always with a pimp beside their backs I'LL COME inside! This pimp is their teacher and he teaches each one to survive on this crazy world GOT MY teacher...and carve your niche! And these women are everywhere with no other way to escape from poverty and that’s why some choose this way of life It's yours!!! Your turn to come inside!

I kinda disagree. I’ve never liked the lyrics until about 1:40 into the song. That’s where I start listening. I think it’s just about trying to be understood, (come inside) and not imitated (carve your niche). This used to be my favorite song for the longest time simply because of the chorus, and how much he bleeds when he screams ITS YOUR TURN TO COME IN…SIDE!!
- BY m_j_mccord@hotmail.com

There's a contrast between the people we know during the day, and those same people at night. that is the main idea that i got out of listening to Korea. there is constant reference to the "day-time dancer", whose innosence is only overshadowed by her life and energy. i believe that same dancer is the "downtown pony". she is downtown, out in the open during the daytime, and she is a good girl. but the rest of the song, anything else, is the "nighttime cavity" which is the "evil side" of this girl. she has people tasting her, there's red leather and claws and feathers. but during the day, she is a "teacher" of mannorism and good behavior. so basically, this is a song about the two different people someone can be, by day and by night, good and bad.
- BY feitceira@hotmail.com

My interpretation on Korea is that he's talking about a prostitute in Korea. I have visited Korea and there is a lot of it going on, not only by Korean women but by Russian women as well (who typically have 'white skin'). I think it's tough for us to conceptualize what it's like in Asia where the sex trade is rampant. It's not like American prostitution, it's even more sick and perverse. I think he's expressing his disgust and how sick he thinks the lifestyle is.

PASSENGER

On this song Maynard from Tool was invited to trade lines with Chino. And a hell of a job they both made! This is a typical psychedelic Tool song. It’s all about being a passenger, on what it seems to be an infinite journey Go and go and don't just drive me home and back again! It looks like this passenger feels comfortable on his trip and don’t really cares with anything or anybody Let the whole world look in who cares who sees anything? The vehicle he's traveling in seems to be an old but well conserved classic car The chrome buttons buckled on leather surfaces…Nice...cool seats there He begs the driver to never stop Don't pull over And if he really wants to make him a good favor drive as fast as possible This time won't you please Drive faster!!! A sad passenger is what he has turned into, maybe running away from personal problems Take me to the end... As he travels the more he wants to, as far as possible and as many time as possible Here I lay Just like always
- BY NUNO ROLINHO

Me and My companion, Vampiros Erectos, think that Passenger is about having a head job in the front seat of the car whilst driving - lyrics like: Hear I lay Still and breathless Just like always Still I want some more The chrome buttons, buckles on leather surfaces These and other lucky witnesses Roll the window down This cool night air is curious Let the whole world look in Who cares who sees anything? Nice...cool seats there To cushion your knees Roll these misty windows Down to catch my breath again
- BY Vampyro & Vampiros Erectos ( from Nuclear Melt Man)

I think this song is about 2 best friends, and one of them is having a problem, and he wants to die, and the other friend is like dont worry about it. but in the car wiht the best friend the guy doesnt feel his problems, he just wants his friend to drive, and drive faster, and he likes the air hitting his face, he feels happy. and he is begging his best friend to never leave him, and never stop driving because he feels happy
- BY ROSE

To me the song passenger is about taking ecstasy, this may be because the first time i rolled i was in a car. ok well here it goes: "here i lay still and breathless"~you're so fucked up that you don't want to move you just want to keep feeling good. "chrome buttons, buckles and leather surfaces" ~wanting
to touch everything, also being curious, the roll making everything seem new. "these and other lucky witnesses" ~your friends watching you who get to tell
you how stupid you acted, chewing your face and what not. "these misty windows" ~the heat is probably up really high, causing the car to be steamy (heat increases your roll). "drive me home then back again" ~the driver tries to drop you off but you don't want to go home because your so fucked up, or your just want to stay out and party alittle more. the only thing that doesn't fit is the "cool night air" because like i said makes you roll harder and being cold brings it down. anyway, i'm sure the passenger actually has nothing to do with ecstasy but, that's what the song does for me. thanks for listening!
- BY MELANIE

''Passenger''! It is obviously about making love in a car. And it isn't the first time either "I LAY STILL AND BREATHLESS/JUST LIKE ALWAYS" and they just cant get enough of it "STILL I WANT SOME MORE'' And when he says "DRIVE FASTER" its talking about wanting it more and it just keeps getting better. They just don't care if anyone else sees "LET THE WHOLE WORLD LOOK IN WHO CARES WHO SEES ANYTHING". The girl is obviously on top and in control " NICE COOL SEATS THERE TO CUSHION YOUR KNEES" Driving is just a metaphorical meaning for sex.
-BY godzvampire@hotmail.com

Once again, this is a made up scenario from the mind of Chino. When asked what this song was about, Chino said simply "High-speed sex in a car." Think about it...... "Drop these down and put them on me..nice cool seats there to cusion your knees......drive faster.......roll these misty windows down to catch my breath and then go and go..drive me home and back again.....I'm your passenger.... You people should read more often and not take things too literally.
- BY iammatt3@juno.com

It sounds to me like maybe it is about a wreck, and even though it's all about to end for them, he is "still your passenger." Example: "here I lay. still and breathless....mirror sideways. who cares whats behind. just like always. still your passenger chrome buttons, buckles, and leather surfaces. these and other lucky witnessess. now to calm me." And the course is like people crowded around the car watching and feeling pity for them. Example: "roll the windows down this cool night air is curious. Let the whole world look in. Who cares who sees anything." So thats what I can get out of the song also.
It can also be having sex in a car too. The lyrics just refer towards the car, but are meant to be viewed as people. - BY cls_2002@hotmail.com

I say that I think the song actually came from a line in the first Crow movie. There is a scene in the movie in which "the crow" (Eric Draven/Brandon Lee) holds a gun to "T-Birds" head and says "I'm your passenger. Now drive." The first time I heard "Passenger" I was actually floored because I had just recently seen the movie. So being connected with the second Crow movie, who knows.. maybe there is a connection. OR I just have too much time on my hands to think lol I've been to a few sites and boards...and no one has really mentioned it.. so I figured, I'd give it a shot.

CHANGE (in the house of flies)

Just because this was Pony’s first single it doesn’t mean that it is a simple and understandable song because it sure isn’t! So many people have different points of view of “Change” but the more obvious is that the main issue is getting older and the consequences of it I watched you change This new grown up is named as “the fly” because now he/she is not an innocent or pure person You WERE ON FIRE And as we all know a fly is an insect that stands over anything even over shit! This is what happens to humanity, because when people reaches a certain age, new things happen like step on bad things and make too many times the same mistakes and in the end people don’t know how to explain it, wings here means words or meanings It's like you never had wINGS This is a pessimist sight of growing up but there are good things too, it’s the time of our life we fell free to do everything we want to And you feel so alive It’s when we find our love, and start to date I took you home, Set you on the glass In many cases is now that virginity is lost I pulled off your wings But problems are much more in this age, sometimes the only thing that pleases us is to kill ourselves Give you the gun, Blow me away Maybe that’s the way…
- BY NUNO ROLINHO

2 people. one is telling the other how he doesn't know him anymore, and maybe he never knew him at all. or maybe he's talking about himself. he used to be so alive and now he's just nothing. i think its about how a person in times grows and then you look back 4 years or so and the same person can be so different its like you never really knew that person. and like the person is sitting there listening to the other person tell him how he's changed and he looks at the cross, kind of like he's asking to be forgiven and then he gives the other person the gun and asks him to shoot him because he realized he doesn't know himself either.
- BY ROSE

I think the meaning of "change" is that he feels guilty for taking advantage of a virgin under false pretense "i took you home" "set you on the glass" "pulled off your wings" (symbolizing an angel and therefore a pure being) "then i laughed" meaning he was never serious about her in the first place. She thinks that he is going to marry her but he just wants to her to "feel alive" by indulging in the carnal act of sex. Afterwards he feels bad because he knows that she was religious and saving herself for marriage. "i looked at the cross and i looked away" (in shame) "give you the gun, blow me away"
- BY |2U$$

OK I think Change is about wanting and trying to help someone's problems but you were stupid for ever trying, alot like A Perfect Circle's "Sleeping Beauty".
I watched you change into a fly: The person detached from their usual life and went their own way.
I looked away, you were on fire: The person was totally destroying him/herself and Chino didn't want to see it
I watched a change in you: ...DUH
It's like you never had wings: He sees the person trying to make it on their own but they're falling on their face and not admiting it
You feel so alive: False confidence from the person, thinking they're doing everything right.
I took you home: Chino tried to help.
Set you on the glass: Told them to listen to what he was saying
I pulled off your wings: Brought them to reality, for a moment
Then I laughed: Chino realizes it was a waste to try
I look at the cross: Chino turned to religion for awhile for answers (?)
Then I looked away: It didn't work (?)
Give you the gun, blow me away: Chino knows it's hopeless and wants them to tell him to get out of their lives.

I think the song “Change” tells about a man who saw his girlfriend has changed into a different girl he used to know, the girl turned out to be a free person, and he doesn’t like it (I WATCH YOU CHANGE, INTO A FLY) but the girl trapped in some situation that might take her into trouble (YOU WERE ON FIRE) The girl has 100% changed compared to what she used to be (LIKE YOU NEVER HAD WINGS) But she loves it, a lot (YOU FEEL SO ALIVE) H would like to change her back again to what she was (I PULLED OF YOUR WINGS, THEN I LAUGHED) He tried to ask for God’s help for a while but it was useless (I LOOK AT THE CROSS, THEN I LOOKED AWAY) He feel so desperate about her that he think he should die (GIVE YOU THE GUN, BLOW ME AWAY), well that’s my view…
- BY Imam

I think the song "change (in the house of flies)" is that he met a gurl and she changed the way she was and chino or to who ever it may concern did'nt want her to change she liked her the way she was and so he got pissed and pretende she was a flie and like he said "i took u home..set u on the glass i pulled of your wings then i laughed" and he thought of doing that and he laughed then also when he says "i look at the cross then i look away" he felt guilty or he felt like he did'nt care the god was watching thats wut i think it means u love someone then the go and change.
- BY Tommy Flores

I think its about observing another person friend/family/ just anyone...and realizing the other side of them....-( " ive watched you change, into a fly ", i look away, you are on fire " ) meaning they aren't who they really are..they aren't happy trying to impress others..theyre putting on a front...and they hate it..its as if they are really on fire in side but appear to be okay...they just want to fit in with " the group " ( set you on the glass, i pulled off your wings and i laughed ) meaning you are sitting them down and showing them who they really are...and laughing because how stupid they are for thinking they had to change...and for giving up what they threw away just to be like another and fit into a certain category... ( i look at the cross i look away i give you the gun to blow me away ) meaning they are so upset over who they pretend to be and how fake they are....embarrassed hurt..and whatnot..that they are willing to give up their life.

PINK MAGGIT

As always Deftones hidden track is as good as anyone before…This one is divided in two parts, the first one talks about a girl (again) maybe the same from the first tracks or another (we’ll never know) this girl is special too, and he’s in loved with her 'Cause I'm on fire And he will always stick to her I'll stick you But once again things are not ok, it’s hard to understand this kind of love, it’s like a knife with two beaks So forget about me He might have a whore I'm so...into...this whore And he wants her to disappear, because he's afraid of losing he's real love Afraid...I might...lose her Hard to understand, easy to love…White Pony a perfect sequence…thanks DefTones!
- BY NUNO ROLINHO

With this song, I imagine a high school kid who is exetremely popular who gets drunk at a party and rapes a girl that he likes. Midway through, he regrets what he did, but has gone to far to that he's afraid he'll lose her, so he just continues onward. Before you call me a pervert, check it out:
"I'll stick you a little Enough to take your oxygen away" (He catches her off gaurd, enough time to violate her)
"I'm so into this whore" (That's all she has become to him)
"I might lose her, so forget about me" (He knows he's done something terrible, and he wants her to forget what happened so he can live a normal life)
"Now that you've kneed her in the throat, Well there you go" (Need I say more?)
"Cause back in school, we are the leaders of all" (You can imagine the rapist saying "I've got my reputation, you're just a whore, who will everyone believe more?")
"All you are to me is meat" (The victim is just another fuck to the rapist)
"Now pass the flask" (Evidence of the drinking the occurred before the act happened)
I would just like to say that I do not condone rape, nor do I think Chino condones rape, I feel that he wanted to tell a story, and it just happened to be of this grim subject matter.
- BY BEN RONEY-YEAGER

I wanna support Ben’s opinion of this song. Because to me it sounds like a warning to the, maybe, rape girl. You know something like: “If you say something, I’ll kill you”. Like you see it in the movies sometimes. F.e. he’s a great and famous Footballstar at this school and this girl is ‘under’ him in this hierarchy of this school. This ‘We are the leaders’, it sounds like ‘We havethe power and you’re nothing, so let it be. It will be better for you”. Or he was blackmailed from his buddies and he wasn’t the culprit, or perhaps he had so much pressure from the guys and so he did it, although he doesn’t want it to do. And now he’s feeling very, very sorry for this girl but the fear wins. The fear of losing his reputation in this school, losing this girl and fear because of his “buddies”, so he’s silent. But his inner I knows the thruth and is very ashamed of it.
- BY CHRISTIN M.

This is a story about love, life, murder and insanity. The person in this tale thinks he is a God, standing tall and mighty among the rest; the cattle. It’s about a man thinking back on childhood. “I’ll stick you. A little... Enough, to take your Oxygen away...” This man, this God, finds a victim, a girl, and proceeds with the murder. He inserts his tubes, his life taking tools of a savior, and inserts them into her. Draining her body of life, taking her oxygen away, slowly killing her. “I’ll set you on fire, ‘Cause I’m on fire, and I’m with you alone, I’m...so...into this whore. Afraid I might...lose her. So forget about me, ‘cause I’ll stick you.” He wishes she was on fire, as he is, in his mind. He’s with her alone, now that he has fallen in love with her, he doesn’t want her to die from what he did, draining her life. Now he is depressed, for what he has become, this monster, who feeds off of living beings. “Pushed back the square! Now that you kneed her- in the throat, Well there you go! ‘Cause back in school, we are the leaders of all.” Pushed back time to when he was in school. He knows that he is still the same person he was then, in school, and that girls used to get abused all the time, behind the tinted windows, that the public didn’t know about it...unless you were his age. Now (present time) he makes a funny joke of how youth really is, and that the people who are meant to be leaders of their future generation, in all actuality, weren’t so good in their past, abusing women, doing drugs, and making fun of the handicapped. And, that THEY are meant to be leaders. So he laughs. “Transpose. Or stop your life, it’s what you do...” People must change, or you might as well put the gun to your head now. You have to do it, to prove your humanity.”Pushed back the square.. Now that you kneed her - but you don’t . So there you go! Cause back in school, we are the leaders of all.” He is saying now that if you change while you are young, and you don’t abuse, and don’t make fun, you can have an influence on other young peoples while they are still at age to be influenced. After all, they are the leaders. “You are... all you are... is meat...” To him, he knows what’s wrong, he knows what’s right. Since, well, he is God, he needs to feed off of the elk, the cattle roaming the grasslands. He needs to murder. He wants to murder. After all, he likes it.

THE BOYS REPUBLIC

This song might be about someone just looking up at the stars at night and feeling alone and content with their place in the universe at the same time. He doesn't care about anyone else seeing or that star shining on them, he just wants to enjoy it. There's something weird that happens when you just look at the stars and think about yourself; maybe he is.
- BY The Boy

I think the meaning to "The Boys Republic" is about a girl. I think that Chino really likes her but she is a slut. "Blue star, Shine your light. Down!!! Pierce for my face, To heal...heal my vains" I think what Chino is trying to say there is that she hurts him, but at the same time he enjoys doing things with her because he likes (maybe even loves) her. Another reason I think that is "You're soothing me yes." The reason I think that Chino portray's her as a slut is because she is the blue star that he is talking about. "Blue Star, Shine down on everyone cause.. I don't care" The part where he talks about shining down on everyone is how she makes other guys "happy" too, but he doesn't care because he still loves her.
- BY JOE

This song has very few lyrics, but the title and overall mood of the song help to give away the meaning. Here's what I think: "boys" means literally, children, and "The Boys Republic" refers to a sort of haven of innocence and purity. "Blue star" is of course a reference to wishing on a star, and feeling at peace. "You're soothing me with thier lungs" may be speaking of a childhood memory of listening to a parent breath.
- BY Squiler123@aol.com

I learned in my astronomy class last year that a blue star is one of the hottest stars in the solar system. When Chino says "Blue star, shine your light down on everyone cause I don't care," I think what it means is that he's ready to welcome armageddon. "They're soothing me with their lungs" means that the mundane, inconsequential bullshit that people talk about with each other is kind of helping him get that armageddon feeling going. To me, the whole song is him talking to the blue star, hoping that the star would get really close to the earth so everyone would burn up. Of course, he'd be dead too, but like he said, he doesn't care. If the blue star shines its light down and kills him, his anger towards people would be gone, thusly soothing him and healing the bad blood in his veins.
- BY Jarrett Pahinui

I always looked at The Boys Republic as a boy standing in his yard on a clear night looking at the stars recently after the death of his mother. BLUE STAR – represents the boy’s mother that died. SHINE YOUR LIGHT DOWN - the child is wishing for his mother to come back into his life. ON EVERYONE - the boy is not the only one who misses her. I DON’T CARE – he gets angry that she died and says he doesn’t care if she comes back. THEY’RE SOOTHING ME, THEIR LUNGS – friends and family members are telling him that “everything is going to be ok”. PEIRCE FOR MY FACE – he wants his mothers star light to go through his eyes to his mind. HEAL MY VEINS – he wants his mother to take care of him, and asks her to heal him. IT’S MORE – the boy realizes that there is more to life then mourning over the lost. YOU’RE SOOTHING ME – although the boy has moved on and grown up, he still remembers his mother, and it makes him feel good. I don’t know, that’s just what came to my head when I first heard the song. I lost my mother, and the song made me recall everything that happened during that point in my life.
