I gota say I was really impressed by their performance at the show. They seemed to have regained the stage energy they had in earlier albums. I saw them at the taste of chaos tour, which was a more laid back (but great) performance by them. I was surprised to see them play passenger. It wasn't too bad for it just being Chino singing without Maynard. I thought it woulda been neat to see dude from 10 years sing maynards part since it more in his range. That boy can freakin sing. He's also said that he's been a huge Deftones fan so I'm sure he woulda been more than happy to do it. They did a few more songs from the Adrenaline and Deftones album which I didn't quite expect cause their last show in Mesa which seemed to be focused more on the White Pony album. As a HUGE Deftones fan I rocked out like I've never had before once they started. I couldn't believe when Chino came out during the Korn set for Wicked. I about lost my damn mind. As for the rest of the bands; Stone Sour, Flyleaf, 10 Years, Korn of course all were freakin awesome. Coulda done without emo-Deadsy and the maniac lead singer Kyo from Dir En Gray though. That psycho about knocked himself out on purpose and was bleeding from his face the whole set. It was a little disturbing and part of the crowd(including me) couldn't wait for them to get off the stage. This is definitely the best concert I'll ever go to. I almost forgot to mention; why didn't I find out bout the meet and greet? I about cried like a little bitch when I heard(late) bout it. - Art Mesa AZ ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- This was a great deftones show! It was my first family values and it was better than i thought it would be! 10 years was a surprise. I didnt expect them and the put on a great show. Deadsy, Flyleaf, Stone Sour, and Korn also put on good/great shows. i didn't care for the other bands. Set List { pretty much the correct order but a couple songs could be off } Feiticeira My Own Summer Beware The Water Nosebleed Rx Queen Passenger Engine #9 Bloody Cape Change Head Up 7 Words As soon as the lights went out for deftones the crowd went crazy and we charged the security and everyone was in the pit! It was freakin crazy! Beware was better live than I expected, though it was a disappointment that they didnt play other new stuff like hole in the earth. Im not to big of a fan for Rx Queen or Nosebleed and they played both last time so i was hoping for those to be traded for something better like Digital Bath or Bored which neither one was played this time or last time, but what can you do? Head Up, Passenger, Engine #9, and Beware were my favorites. there was a great performence of Wicked. I pre-ordered SNW, which is confirmed for holloween to be released, and got a signed limmited edition lithograph and met the band! It was a great night. PS: the guy who came out to play was a skinny blonde kid who looks like hes about 25 and nothing like max. i heard hes one of the bandmates cousins. - daniel c. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- In Februray, I came under fire for my harsh critique of the Deftones at Taste of Chaos in Mesa. I concluded by hoping that the Deftones regained their form and reclaimed the greatness I knew was inherent to them. On August 18th, at Family Values Tour, I got my wish. Deftones absolutely killed. They were top notch, spot on, and commanding on stage. And, I got to meet them after the show by pre-ordering Saturday Night Wrist through the FYE booth. Lastly, according to the pre-order sheet they give you at the booth, the album is supposed to come out 10/10/2006, and not Halloween. I dunno what that's about. Here's the complete setlist: Fieticiera My Own Summer (Shove it) Beware Passenger Nosebleed Engine No. 9 RX Queen Bloody Cape Head Up (with Max Cavalera [or however you spell it] from Soulfly!) Change (In the House of Flies) 7 Words Yes, you read that correctly. Max from Soulfly/Sepultura fame did the number that eulogize's his son, Dana, live with Chino and the boys. At first, I thought it was a deranged fan or something that jumped on stage with the way he was behaving. Then I realized it was Max. Also, afterwards Chino was like, "Thanks to our good friend, Max C!" It was tight. Lastly, those crickets you hear during the chorus of the "Beware" rip from myspace? Yeah, they are supposed to be there. Frank did 'em live at the show. I asked about it during the meet-and-greet after their set. I asked Frank, "Those crickets during 'Beware.' That's you, right?" And he was like "Yeah, but they're not REALLY crickets." I think he thought I said they were actual cricket recordings. But, no, it's just Frank dropping some serious scratches on the mixer. Deftones are at the summit of their powers. Enjoy! P.S. Chino came on and did "Wicked" with Korn about an hour into their set. Again, awesome! Stewart Smith stewartbsmith@hotmail.com
