i just wanted to "report" my deftones live in paris bercy. I already saw 'em
in march 2001 in paris Zenith, but i guess it's too layte to report it, so i
saw them saturday and right now i just wanna give u my impressions.
Before the Deftones, two bands : Revolution smile and A Perfect circle.
REVOLUTION SMILE :
Not much to say about them, just a regular rock band to my eyes, but i
actually don't know them that well.
A PERFECT CIRCLE :
i didn't know them before this night, but i was excited just because i knew
that the tool's singer was a part of it, and the Marilyn Manson ex-guitarist
and all.
That was a bad-ass band actually; great singer for sure, a very psychotik
atmosphere,... Seriously very interesting.
DEFTONES :
THEN they arrived on stage and dude that was sooooooo good. but i don't
wanna be to negative but some stuff did'nt convince me there. Let's start.
- Paris Bercy, Ten thousand people at least. Nothing but metal boyz addicted
to beer and weed, and frequently to other stuff. Everybody was excited and
so ready to pogo. This was actually the most violent concert i've ever seen,
even Slipknot were like teletubbies compared to the front of the pit of this
concert (that's cuz the stage was bigger). Violent and HOT for christ sake,
but whatever, i wasn't there to feel comfortable.
- The ticket i bought was okay for the pit, but too cheap for the sits, but
anywayz i found a way to go to the sits ( by telling someone in the sits to
borrow his ticket i u know what i mean), at list until Deftones came. My
friends wanted to stay at their sits when the band arrived on the scene and
began to play; i said "fuck that", i just ran from the sits to the pit, but
jumped instead of taking the stairs : first free-slam on the first song they
played : Minerva.
- The way they opened the concert was so not spectacular : Just a fuckin
skull with stupid roses; dammit. I regreted that. Two years ago for the Back
to School world tour it was a HUGE piece of red cloth with a withe pony, and
the shadow of chino on the back, befor they started BQaD and the cloth fell
....
- CHI, PUT UR BASS LOWER, not that it was too loud but we couldn't even hear
chinos voice, that was soooo sorry ....
- The dude Chino and his fellowship played Minerva, then another from the
new album (sorry i don't know it very well i actually don't really like it
...), then in disorder :
Adrenaline : A lot from that one album (the one i like ty)he most), mostly
at the end of the concert : Root, Fireal, Bored, Nosebleed, Minus blindfold,
engine n°9, and te best of all : BIRTHMARK. Oh dammit they kinda played the
whole album, even if they didn't play lifter and one weak.
Around the fur : A lot from that one too, specially in the middle of the
concert : my own summer, BQaD, Mascara, Mx, the motherfuckin Headup one,
Around the fur, and i guess this is it.
White pony : NOT A LOT FROM THAT ONE for sure : Digital bath, change, Korea,
and this is it i guess
Deftones : Minerva, Hexagram, and two songs i can't remember their names.
- The concert was long enough, and it was so violent that i couldn't stay on
the front the whole time, but to my eyes the better part was the end of it ,
the adrenaline section, and the legendary "squeal like a pig..."
- Chi said his usual "Respect", Chino did his usual "pit-bath", i almost
touched his fat-ass (dammit he took so much weight ...), he got hurt in the
finger (poor boy...).
- I like the way Abe has his hair right now, he was sooooo excited this
night.... a real pleasure for ears.
- Chino of course lied, sayin that france was the "best motherfuckin country
on the whole motherfuckin europe", but he probably say that every time
- Wtf, he asked us if we wanted to drink, as the public (that didn't
understand a word because he seems to forget that he is in France and that
France people are so bad at speakin english) said yes, he drank two sips of
a beer, and that's all... How dissapointed was the public !! Hey Chino !!
King of every alcohol !! what's wrong ?
- finally i have a bump on the nose, one of my teeth is broken, another
teeth moves, and my lips are opened; i never got hurt that much (well i'm
not that brave anywayz ^^)
- but the concert was fuckin good and heavy, EVEN IF it wasn't as good as
two years ago cuz we couldn't hear his voice, but i guessthat's because that
was the first time in 2001

The concert was supposed to begin at 7:30 pm but we had to wait a bit outside
before we could enter the room (they were about 8,000 people). So we arrived at
the end of Revolution Smile. We waited another 30 minutes to see A Perfect Circle
who played quite good. Then around 10:00 pm the Deftones came. Chino started with
two songs from their last album, but the crowd start to get wild with Be Quiet and
Drive. The show was excellent. And they played for about an hour and a half !
I couldn't believe it. Chino gave everything he had to make sure we'd enjoy it.
The crowd was really into it especially at the end whee they played 7 Words and
other songs fom Adrenaline and Around the Fur.
It was my 1st Deftones concert and definitely not the last one. Thank you so much
for everything. Yesterday evening I was in heaven.
