DEFTONES live at Oporto - Coliseum
+ Meeting with the Deftones
February, 27th 2001

This was my 4th Deftones concert and it was for sure the best I've ever seen. The main reason for that was Oporto's setlist, rare songs were played here, and Chino was simply amazing...the whole band was. This time I didn't stay in the moshpit, I went straight to the sitting spots. I was so tired. Less than twenty-four hours passed by and I was in front of another Deftones concert. Once again they got a sold out concert. Taproot opened their tour just like they did in Lisbon. They are nice guys too I've met them personally in Lisbon and they are really funny. Taproot's frontman is a badass he did what he have done in Lisbon, he went into the crowd and walked until the upper sitting spots. They ended their show with a Deftones cover, "Teething", I loved they way they covered it. Great live band too. Then they got off and everyone was all hyped up for the biggest band in the world...we were all there for the Deftones and I really thought that this show would be a reflection of the day before, but I was so damn wrong. Their setlist was so different.they started with "Nosebleed" and Chino jumped off the stage into the crowd after the "Disapear." part. But apparently what disappeared was his belt cause his pants fell down and two or three songs after it I saw a flying belt going straightly to Chino's hands. After songs like "Engine #9" and "Feiticeira", the Deftones started to play "Be Quiet And Drive" and that was the shit! Chino climbed till some empty skyboxes and sang the whole song from there. Then two fans climbed that same wall and sang together with him. Right before the song ended, Chino climbed this skyboxes balcony and dove off.everyone was perplexed cause he didn't jump or dive on the day before. That was the highest dive I've seen, and I tell you that I've seen lots of dives from Chino. That was the greatest. I think he did that cause this crowd was less violent than Lisbon's crowd. In Lisbon was like 10 crowd-surfers per second, in Oporto were not even 10 per minute. Chino felt much more confident in Oporto. More surprises were about to come."what a surprise right there" called "Dai the Flu".from the two concerts that was the best song not only for its rarity but also for its performance, simply amazing much better than the CD's version. talking about "ATF" this was its surprise and "Adrenaline" surprise was "Birthmark", I know they played it a lot, but after the "White Pony" I think they played just once or never played.and once again they did it heavenly. Another song that surprised me was "Lifter"."a part of me gets sick" during this part every single soul was screaming. I can't explain what I felt during this concert but I loved every Deftones concert I've been to, but this forth one was their best. No words to describe it...if you wanna read a better review of this show come inside my mind and you'll see what I mean...

OPORTO SETLIST # Nosebleed, Engine #9 (Wicked), ATF, Bored, Feiticeira, Change, Back To School, BQAD, Dai The Flu, Korea,Birthmark, Digital Bath, Lifter, Root, Teenager, Shove It, Headup.

...meeting...

After this show ended I went backstage with my friend Wax...and please stop asking me how I'm always in the backstage with the band. I got no free passes or after show stickers, after all these meetings with the band I guess that I'm always with them because they respect not only me but also the work that I've done with this website. But as I was saying, I went backstage and the first person I saw was Frank and right beside him Chino Moreno, who is in perfect shape, he has his spikey hair again and his so known gotee. Physically he's cool now, just like the ATF era. He was, of course, tired...so I started with Frank who already knows my name...well he spelled it "Nuño" but that's ok, I taught him how to spell it though. We spoke about deftonesworld.com and he said that he comes here very often, his first time was when me and Brian (thedeftones.com) started our affiliation. He told me that the first thing he saw was the Deftones tattoos, and right after it he just undressed his coat and showed me his "sacred heart" tattoo, and told me to took a pic of it and I just did that, that was rad. Then I started to talk with Chino and asked him to sign me up some stuff and he said that was ok, I thought that I was being a parasite all around him, and then my friend Wax apologized for all those autographs and Chino said "I don't care man" That's why I respect this band, they are always up for fans. I brought also some gifts from Finnish fans, like their demo CD and their letters and I offered that as well, I took some nice pics of Chino during these moments...I'll post them later. As you know I asked about Teamsleep and about Faith No More tribute and Chino told me that Faith No More were so great and unique that he was not seeing himself covering Mike's voice...about Teamsleep he said that Melissa will be probably out of this project and their debut album will be out first then the Deftones 4th album.

Another gift I had for them was some really tight t-shirts that me and Sly (the dutch artist) made especially for them. We made 5 t-shirts and each one had each Deftones' member's face and some cool drawings of this same member. Chino and Frank were the first to see their shirts and they were amazed with that, they also saw Stef's shirt and then Abe and Chi appeared and they all started to joke at Stef's shirt cause one of the drawings was Stef with a "Budweiser belly"...So Abe and Chi appeared and I started to talk with them, Abe is so damn funny as you probably know. I liked him much more than the previous meetings, he was so cool to me. Chi..well that's my man...he's like my best friend and any other fan's best friend. This guy always has a smile on his face, and if you say "sadness" he's the first one to say "happiness". I asked him about his dreadlocks and he started to jump on his feet saying "I just buried them!"...So I offered a dreadlock to him from one of those Finnish fellas (Olé)...and he was perplexed looking at that, he thought it was something to eat, cause it was inside a little plastic bag...While Stef was takin a pic of me, Chi and Wax, Chi was saying that he was the drug dealer cause that little bag looked like a cocaine bag...oh yeah Stef finally appeared...He's so shy...and what I said about Abe it's what I say about Stef. I liked him much more this time...but hey I called him a shy guy but he's also a gooffy guy...he stole my camera and then he started to take pics to their crew...I was like "stop man I only have 5 pics left"... and he just didn't care...that was pretty funny...Anywayz they said it was time to dinner so they went to their private room and asked us to stand still on their dressing room....and after that  it was like the " The Defanatics Strike Again" it was me Wax and some more fans fighting for their towels and personal stuff...I think that I won cause I have here 2 Chino towels and some Back To School pamphlets...hehehe... After this tremendous fight the band met us again and I had time to talk  a bit more with Chi about his solo work, and he told me that he's about to release the live session in Sacto that he did with Jonah.
