Family Values Tour August 29th, 2006 Darien Lake Performing Arts Center, NY The only thing that I can start this off with is: Wow, today was so fucking badass. My friend Tristan and I left for the Family Values Tour around 1:00pm and arrived right as the first band, Walls of Jericho, was going on. We actually didn't watch them and decided to stay in the parking lot to chill for a little bit. We went into the venue right as Deadsy was setting up, but we didn't watch them either, since I was too busy at the FYE tent pre-ordering Saturday Night Wrist. We did see Bury Your Dead, Direngrey, 10 Years, Flyleaf, Stone Sour, and of course, Deftones. All of them except for Stone Sour (and duh, Deftones) were very forgettable, especially Direngrey, they were just awful. After hours of waiting through mediocre music and walking around the place, the Deftones' backdrop finally came down and we went to get a spot as close as we could. The place didn't exactly go wild when they all came out, but I didn't give a shit, I was there to see them even if not everyone else was. Here's the set-list in semi-correct order: Feiticiera My Own Summer Beware the Water Nosebleed Engine No. 9 HOLE IN THE EARTH! Passenger Hexagram Headup Change 7 Words Every single song was done to perfection, but overall, I really think they could have been louder than they were. That didn't stop us from having fun, as it was truly the best set I've ever seen in person. "Hole in the Earth" was SO fucking beautiful, as well as "Passenger", which I wasn't sure if they were gonna play or not. "Be Quiet and Drive" was sorely missed, but I think "Beware" and "Hole" made up for it. After the last song, Tristan and I hightailed it to the FYE tent where, after something like 40 minutes, we got to meet the band and get the autographed lithograph. They were all so damn cool, Frank stopped to actually have a short conversation with me, and I gave Stephen a big hug. Chino, Chi, and Abe were also so damn nice and appreciative of all of the "thank yous" that I gave them. It was a perfect way to end a wonderful day/night. -Cory McKnight
