I'll only accept reviews from recent shows!

Greetings. I was at the Deftones show last night and I figured I'd drop you a review. Here's the set (order a little blurry but close): Feiticeira My Own Summer Be Quiet and Drive (stopped after the breakdown) Around the Fur Nosebleed Bloody Cape Rx Queen (w/ Street Drum Corps) Change Hexagram 7 Words (part one) Birthmark Root 7 Words (part two) The Good: I was psyched that they played Rx Queen. I've yet to see that live and it's one of my favorites. Chino's voice sounded downright amazing, and far better than the previous three times I saw him. I don't know if they were using some kind of new effects, or if he's just been working on it. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and go with the latter. I'll also plug Thrice here. They were AMAZING and the crowd went apeshit for them! Check them out if you haven't already. The Bad: The most notable bad thing was, and this is shocking considering my previous Deftones shows, the crowd was VERY WEAK and at times it bordered on being dead. Don't get me wrong, everyone seemed into the Deftones and there were certain points where things picked up (Change, Hexagram, 7 Words, Root) but the energy I'm used to seeing at Deftones shows just wasn't there. I'm going to focus my blame for this on the arena itself. The floor was extremely undersold. There was room for twice as many people on the floor than there was. This wasn't a "poor ticket sales" issue either because the seats were about 75% filled. So I just don't understand why more people weren't allowed on the floor? This would have aided the crowd reaction considerably. I'm a little disappointed that they didn't play any new songs or any covers off of "B Sides and Rarities" (The Chaffeur, No Ordinary Love, etc.). I have just one more complaint: Chi, Stephan, Frank, and particularly Chino are just plain.....well....FAT! Hey guys you're rockstars try and look the part! Do you remember what you guys used to look like? Review: All in all, it was an enjoyable night. Deftones and Thrice both rocked. It wasn't the best time I saw the Deftones (that would be the Stone Pony in '98) but it was still a great show. I can't wait for their new album and subsequent tour. -Lars ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hey yesterday was my 5th time seeing the deftones & this is 1 of my top fav. performances. Chino was just full of energy & i was actually surprised by that. Overall an awesome fucking show & his screams were actually better than average. heres the setlist i may have fucked up on a song or 2 & the order: Feiteceria My Own Summer Around the Fur Nosebleed RX Queen (w/ drum street corps) BQAD Change Bloody Cape Hexagram 7 Words (opening) Birthmark/Root 7 Words (ending) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Deftones totally blew every other band off the stage. The sound was very tight especially for an arena show. Chino's vocals where perfect and his screams where very good. It did not seem like he was holding anything back like the other reviews. The other reviews where right with he does not rage on the stage like he used to (def gained some weight). Chino also did not jump into the crowd. Very great show and as always left me wanting more. Can't wait til the d=tones are back in the summer. Also the way they did Hexagram sounded a little different than usual but great. Here is the set list: Feitciera My Own Summer Nosebleed (love the old school) Be Quiet and Drive Bloody Cape Knife Party Around the Fur RX Queen (with the garbage can drummer fools) Change Hexagram 7 Words part 1 Birthmark Root (awesome) 7 Words part 2 Eric ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- All I can say is major disappointment. Deftones came out a little after 9:30, played about 10 songs, and didn't interact with the crowd. The set list was about the same as every other night, no new song of course. They played a lot of their singles so maybe they are trying to attract new fans who were there to see other bands. If that's what they were doing then they did a terrible job (although they did sound good). It could be just me though; I'm comparing them to their usual small venue sets and interactions. Well here's looking forward to the fall tour. On a last note, Id like to give shout out to the 5 or 6 guys who were walking around with their shirts off and hats on side wards picking on people smaller than them the whole night by section 104. I hope at least 1 of you read this because you guys got your asses kicked after the show. How'd it feel? They jumped my boy and paid the price. Everyone watching around us literally cheered us on and clapped after we beat the living shit out of them. Setlist Feiticiera My own Summer Be Quiet and Drive Nosebleed Bloody Cape Around the Fur Rx Queen Hexagram Change 7 Words/Birthmark/7Words -Kevin
