November 8th....New Orleans......Twi-Ro-Pa.....best night of my life.
Me and my buddy Tony went to see the Deftones in concert. It was the first
time we had seen them live. We got really drunk on Bourbon St. and then proceeded
to the venue. We met some really cool people whbile standing in line.
The opening band, Denali, was pretty damn good. The girl singing had a really great
voice (and body!) and I think they were a good slow-build to what was to come.
Poison the Well was next. They tore the fucking roof off the place! They played all my
favorite songs, including "Botchla" and "Slice Paper Wrists", as well as some of their
new shit. By the way, if you haven't picked up their CD, "You Come Before You", or
any of their others for that matter, GO BUY THEM NOW! You won't regret it!
And then came the Deftones. The band I've waited 8 long years to see. The crowd went
fucking bananas! They opened with Minerva and just never let up. Everything from "Head Up"
to "Boys Republic" was there. "7 Words" was notably missing, even though I blew out my
vocal cords screaming out for them to play it!
They blew a speaker or something during their show, but they didn't stop. That's to be
expected from a band possessing the sonic assault that the Deftones. I wish Chino would
have come to our side of the stage at least once. Hell, we already couldn't see Stephen
cuz of the damn monitors stacked up in front of us. Other than those very, very minor
complaints, it was an experience I will never forget. Do yourself a favor and go see the
Deftones live ASAP. You won't be dissapointed.
