I sit here still in shock from last night. The show was most amazing thing
iv ever seen the deftones are the biggest band in the world . Thursday was tight
thrice was ok i got alittle bored them came deftones.I was front row this was my
first time seeing them. They came out and started playing an intro with moaning very
beautiful when chino started singing my heart stopped. He sounded better than iv
ever heard him and then i ever could have expected. He hit the high notes perfect
and i swear his screams blew the speakers .During digital bath chino's guitar wasent
working he smashed it into tiny bits raising his middle finger in disgust to the
sound guy. I gotta nob off the guitar and some lucky ass got the whole front of it.
I was the only one in going nuts in my section chino came by shook my hand and smiled
he sang a part of the out kast song ''heyya'' it was funny im sure somone else will go
into more detail heres the set as i remember it.

Oh yeah tight show! My friend was pulled over for going 90 in a 55 zone. We were a
little bummed by that, but then we got there. Oh man It was soo cool. We missed Thursday,
but I have seen them, and they are good, so was Thrice. THen They cleared the stage and took
the dustcloth off of Abe's kit. . . and all hell broke loose.
This was my 6th time seeing the Deftones. And as usual, they did not dissapoint. After
they were halway done, Chino thanked all the guys and called Frank "She-ra" and the crowd
"Castle Greyskull". It was too funny. I was in awe that they played the Duran-Duran song:
The Chauffer, I love that song. Abe's kit had the album artwork this time instead of the
Hexagram artwork or TAMA. Chino's mic was getting too much feedback during Bloody Cape, and
he got mad and smacked it into the ground. During Change, he flung his SG (guitar) into the
stage and just sang the rest of the song. It was amazing. Great show. Here is the setlist:
1) Minerva (w/long intro)
2) Bloody Cape
3) Nosebleed
4) My Own Summer
5) BQAD
6) Digital Bath
7) The Chauffer
8) Mascara
9) Around the Fur
10) Headup
11) Hexagram
12) Korea
13) Change ( in the house of flies )
14) Feiteceria
15) Bored
16) 7 Words

The first point that needs to be adressed is that fact that Deftones are far
from "done". I didn't know what to expect; it has been several years since
they last played Milwaukee (opening for Godsmack in East Troy doesn't
count). What I got from Deftones wasn't their greatest performance, but it
was a upper tier and technically precise show.
I wish I could say as much for the crowd. They seemed to be looking for the
fast parts of songs like 7 words and Bored. Despite a powerful vocal
performance during Hexagram (which took my breath), the crowd slowly sloshed
back and forth. Many looked lost during the beautiful cover Nightboat, and
also wandered during the best live Digital Bath I ever heard.
Chino was really quiet tonight. I guess I would have been too. He seemed
to like the crowd, but he discussed past Milwaukee crowds like he was
looking for a bit more. He smiled, but it seemed like "he wanted more".
His vocal range was streched to the max and did not break, quite possibly
the best voice I've heard in the acoustic unfriendly Eagles Ballroom. The
guitars were tuned well, and the shifts in the songs went off with great
energy.
It seemed like the band was tired and going through the motions on more than
one occasion. There were also strange gaps between songs. The lights would
go out, and silence..
I come out as a fan who got a bit more than he expected. Having bought
every single Deftones record on its release date since Adrenaline, Deftones
and I have gone through many changes over the years. I'm starting to open
to some of their mellower tunes, and this show played more on them then
during past Milwaukee shows. Other reviewers are right in saying that the
pace of a tune like Headup seems to have slowed. They are showing evolution
in even their past tunes, and that is a great sign. With a truly rocking
crowd, this show would have been tops. But it can't beat the last stop on
the Around the Fur tour in Madison when the barricade shattered during the
first song. Watching Chino play foreman and say "he wasn't going to pay for
the cleanup" was a gutbuster!
I look forward to the next step in the evolution of the greatest band I have
ever had the pleasure to enjoy..
By the way, I forgot to mention Thursday and Thrice. I wanted to, but I
forgot them... let the other reviewers speak their mind on them. To use
Digital Bath for a third time "I felt like more" out of them.

Anyone else think Deftones are losing it? This was my fifth show, and having been
a fan of their music since 1996, I can say that this concert was one of my most
pitiful wastes of time and money. Chino's voice sounded awful, and his stage
presence reeeked of way too much alcohol and narcotics. Stef's guitar was often
sounded out of tune and Abe was able to mess up enough times to notice. As far as
the other two, nothing noticeably redeeming. Aside from the opening of Minerva,
the stage set and lighting also looked like something that the venue threw together
for them as the show went on.
It's no wonder that Deftones took so long to record the self-titled album.
Hopefully not, but I get the feeling this will be the final worthwhile album these
guys put forward. It's unfortunate It was sure disappointing for me to see one of
my very favorite bands look and sound so subpar. They even managed to slaughter
their otherwise excellent cover of The Chauffeur. One of my friends who came along
said of his first Deftones concert, "they sound like a local band that if they
worked on it a little harder could probably be pretty good." Sounds like a pretty
lousy description for our $29 tickets and my months of anticipation.
These guys no longer are able to put up the performances I feel they could in the
past. Whether it's the time on the road, the extra pounds they've all accumulated,
or most likely the ridiculous amounts of drugs, Deftones are on their way out the
door. I did not make it to any Summer Sanitarium tour shows, but I remember feeling
a bit surprised that bands like Limp Bizkit and Linkin Park were headlining and not
Deftones. After seeing them last night, they don't even deserve to be headlining over
Thursday and Thrice. I am going to see Linkin Park for the first time in January,
even though I have always somewhat disliked them, just to get rid of the taste left
in my mouth from my six dollar beer and Chino's completely unintelligible screams and
lyrics.
I never thought I would leave a Deftones show early. After the set was done, it seemed
like just about no one in the building was cheering for an encore. Aside from the
typical angst-ridden teenagers that go to any show just to mosh and complain about
society, I don't think that too many other people had a decent time. I tried to ask a
few people around me if they were fans for a long time and what they thought about the
show, but I didn't talk to anyone that knew much other than post-Around the Fur tunes.
Time to move on I guess. Next time I have a choice of going to see Deftones or not,
I'll be sure about my choice.

I missed Thursday on Wednesday in Milwaukee, but Thrice sounded like
shit. I've been to quite a few shows here at the rave in Milwaukee, and
never before have I seen any band sound so good in the Eagles Ball Room as
the Deftones did. Regardless of what others say on this review board, Chino
and the band were trying their damndest to put on the best show possible.
In a summer's issue of Revolver Chino admitted that the White Pony tour
didn't have any of the energy that the Deftones earlier performances had and
after watching videos of himself from the adrenaline days, he was going to
change that. After seeing the 'tones on Wed. I full heartedly believe he
was going as nuts as he possibly could on stage, and was full of energy, and
that he's making the most of every concert. Some people want to see chino
weigh 150 pounds and jump up into the crowd and lose all control, but I
don't think they are remembering that he's 30 years old, and for 30 he still
seems like 20, which is more then anyone can ask for.
Moreno showed more motivation to put on a perfect show then I've ever
seen. If Chino didn't care about the sound, why would he beat the ground
with the Microphone after a tad of feedback, and break his beautiful SG for
the same reason. Trust me, he wanted to put on the best show possible. As
far as the people in the crowd, they weren't moving because they were
crushed together, trying to get to the front *The stage isn't that big*.
When the lights went out, the crowd rushed forward (I was on the balcony
with a dislocated knee, trust me I saw it) and stayed crushed together the
whole time. As the tones first came out the sound was so beautiful it
brought tears to my eyes, litteraly, because I knew the Deftones weren't
fuckin around this time, and that this shit was the real deal. For anyone
who thinks the Deftones put on a bad show: Contact me and show me somethign
better, I've been to plenty of concerts in my days, and few bands can put on
a performance that's par with that of the Deftones.
Corrections:
*Night Boat was Never played, Chauffuer was played
*Chino didn't look full of narcotics or alcohol, especially being so precise
about sound, and getting very angry with the sound guy multiple times.
*All the instruments were precise on sound, including Chino's voice,
obviously the band changes things up once in while, it's called improvision,
it's what makes a show live, and not boring.
*Again, for the "Fan since 1996", I can flawlessly play every Deftones song
on every instrument, seriously, I can, and not once did I hear Stef out of
Tune, or Abe off beat, or Chino sounding awful....
*Anyone who can't see and hear the love Chino has for his songs isn't
observant at all, at times he is almost crying he is so into it, and at
other times his face looks like that of Bruce Lee in Enter the Dragon, I
don't think anyone can or would fake that, it's called passion. He moves
with the songs in a way he can't help doing because they are a part of him,
nothing is staged, or planned, everything is pure passion.
I can't fuckin wait til I have another go at the Deftones, next time
hopefully without a busted knee, so I'm not stuck in the balcony, which did
pay off however, having a vantage point to bring you a fully truthful,
excellent review.
