The setlist in its correct order: Feiticeira My Own Summer (Shove it) Be Quiet and Drive (Far Away) Nosebleed Bloody Cape Knife Prty RX Queen Around the Fur Hexagram Change (In the House of the Flies) 7 Words/Birthmark/7 Words I'm a huge Deftones fan, and I'll even admit the Taste of Chaos show in Mesa was not the best effort Deftones have put forth. Chino was huge. He porked up during 2003, then lost a lot of it (in my opinion) when I saw him two years later with Team Sleep. Now, he's ballooned up and it looks like it's limiting his movement. He seemed to rely on plays with his hands more than the essential Chino jumping and clawing around. Also, there were a few sound issues at the show, much like those reported in San Diego. Chino's mic cut out a few times, most noticeably during the crescendo of Bloody Cape. It felt as though Chino was holding back screaming-wise in order to keep his voice healthy for the duration of the tour. Listeners could hear emulators and distortors aiding his singing. A few funny moments though. Chino did a little jig and dance midway through the set and slung the microphone around his neck while he sipped a brew towards the end. My girlfriend and I had a good laugh when Chino said "Gracias" in a cutesy manor at the end of one song. The closing number was interesting. It was 7 Words until the second chorus, then they flowed into the second half of Birthmark, and once Chino was done screaming, they capped it off with the final part of 7 Words. There were no glaring omissions, although I would have loved to hear Minerva. I'd never seen RX Queen before live, so that was a treat. The vocals and samples were spot on for that song. Change was another good number. Most disappointing was a lack of new material. I thought they might keep the same set as in San Diego, but they didn't. Here's hoping Chino regains his form and the new material is on another level for the next round of shows. stewartbsmith@hotmail.com
