DEFTONES live at Super Bock Super Rock, Lisbon - Portugal
// Meeting with the Deftones //
May, 26th 2006
Well after reading miles of reviews since my last Deftones show, 2 years ago, I thought this wouldn't be as great as it was...Rare songs played and an outstanding performance in front of more 30,000 fans in Lisbon. I'll just post the the setlist, altough it's probably not 100% correct, because there's nothing else to say about the show, it was perfect. Check the video below with the highlights:
SETLIST # Korea, Feiticeira, Beware, My Own Summer, When Girls Telephone Boys, Battle Axe,
Passenger, Can't Even Breathe,
Change, Birthmak, Be Quiet and Drive, Nosebleed, No Ordinary Love,
Hexagram, 7 Words Combo (w/ Root, Engine #9 and Wicked)
Tonight, the band was always ok for everything, except Chino, he was tired and shit, we didnt take a photo, because, (and I warn you) - dont loose him when you're backstage, I talked with him and then 5 minutes later I didnt find him anywhere else, the only place I think he was at was the stage, watching Tool....about his fatness...let me get this straight, he gain a couple of pounds, but when you're next to him he looks pretty normal, like in the wp era, but when we take photos and film him his face looks like is gonna pop up, dont believe in everythin you see. he's really more moreno (brunet) in really person and not that fat - period.
Stef was in a hella of a mood...man he talked with me about everything, he took my camera, played with it, he offered me drinks, guitar pics, drumsticks, he even offered me a pinneaple but I refused it, he signed shit, he did a welcome video for dw and sl in like 5 takes..he was better than ever on stage too...
Chi talked about his spoken word project, a book is his next project, he was still blown away with the spoken word performance he did with dredg, and shaking his hand was like shaking a piece of rock from the bermuda triangle, you can feel something strange in this guy, he was friendly as always.
Well Abe, he's still the funniest guy, while the rest of the band is getting old phisically, this guy seems to get younger and younger and up for everything with the fans, if you want to take photos with him bring your parrot, your iguana, your black widow, he will do it!
Frank is the internet guy, at the end he looked at me and thanked me for all the hard work and promissed they will be around europe again next year promoting the new album...we hope...
Overall it was a great night, and as a an old Deftones fan I definetly say that the band IS NOT dead yet, like some said, they are alive and rocking, I hope you catch them this year in a city next to you...and remember that artists are real people, this was a hella of a show, but tomorrow show might not be as great as this one and that doesnt mean that the band is dead. I think I was lucky enough to meet them and watch them in top shape.
