Deftones live at "Brabanthal" Leuven, Belgium 20 Sep 2003 www.deftonesworld.com The show was so great. It was my first show of them so i was really excited. Being in front of the crowd only the Deftones in front of me was amazing. Chino had that Smile on his face. The crowd completely rocked out the show. She played a lot of old songs like Mascara and Dai the flu. They also played 7 Words, i heard a lot of that played live,it was a litle awesome. here's the setlist, where i had a little fight to got it. Minerva Bloody Cape Be Quiet and Drive (Far away) My Own Summer Bored Feiticeira Digithal Bath Around the Fur Head-Up Mascara Birthmark Hexagram Battle Axe Seven Words Engine no.9 ------------ encore break ------------ Dai The Flu Change coalcham@pt.lu ------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Brabanthal lay in the industrial area just outside of Leuven. A bus would take u right in front of the venue's door, if it wasn't a weekend. Which it was. After some searching another bus came pretty close and it would have taken us 5 minutes to get to the venue if the busdriver didn't point another direction. After half an hour we got to the venue. I heard the show would start earlier then 8, and indeed, the doors opened a bit earlier. We waited at the busses for some time and after that got into the venue. The venue was actually far smaller then I expected, and had a bit of an intemate feel to it. We missed The Revolution Smile and the first song of A Perfect Circle, much to our dismay. In the beginning, Maynard wasn't to be seen, except his shadow on a white sheet which was draped around the place he stood which was more to the back of the stage. At one point during the show, Maynard apologised on behalf of his country and his president, which was rewarded with a loud applaus. A Perfect Circle was grand! Then, after some time, Deftones graced the stage. And the crowd went wild. They started with 'Minerva' followed by 'Bloody Cape', 'Be Quiet And Drive (Far Away) and 'My Own Summer (Shove It)' And the crowd sang along loudly. Luckily that mellowed down after a while and Chino could be heard. And what a sound it was... That goes for the whole thing, the sound was just awesome. For quite some time I just stood still and just looked. During 'Hexagram' Chino stopped the song to ask the crowd to move back and pick eachother up. Again I stood gasping when the went on just where the left off...right in the middle of the 'worship, play, play' chorus...wow! Also worth mentioning, I think, is when the played 'Birthmark' Chino did not sing 'birth' but screached it...loud, louder, loudest....wow! The crowd cheered for 'Passangers' but they did not play that song. They played 17 songs, I don't know the full setlist but these were the songs they played; Bored, 7 Words, Birthmark, Engine No.9 (?)My Own Summer (Shove It), Around The Fur, Be Quiet And Drive (Far Away), Dai The Flu, Headup, Feiticeira, Digital Bath, Change (In The House Of Flies), Hexagram, Minerva, Battle-Axe and Bloody Cape. After the show I took another look at the busses. Ever since I'm a fan I tried to meet them. Get a picture. U know, typcial fan stuff :) I got my wish!!! After some waiting, Chino came to see the fans. I was able to take to pics with him. One I noticed a paper of another fan in front of the lens and I took another. It wound up in both pics....just my luck! But I'll bet that person did not do that on purpose. Afterwards I said 'Thank u vveeerryy much' and got out of the crowd. There's a billion things I could say, but I forgat them all. Besides, there were other people there who wanted to meet him. I walked to my girl, and see took me along :) After about 30 minutes I started thinking along on how to get back to the youth hostel and asked a cab to take us there. Great show, great night. - tuck
