PHOTOS AT: http://www.freelivephotos.com/cat188.htm **** ********* ********* Deftones @ Tivoli, Utrecht, June 10th 2006 14th time seeing Deftones. Was looking forward to the show so much since it was one of those smaller clubshows during their festival tour with huge crowds. Like London (where I read about) there was no opening band. I think on the band's request or something. The place was hot! Outside it was pretty hot too and I don't think they used the full capacity of the airco inside...dammit. Anyways door opened at 19.00, band came on at 20.45 after an intro of Johnny And Santos' 'Sleepwalk', as song Deftones covered once. Set was a bit the same as previous shows. But from the start it was clear to me that what I've seen on footage from some previous shows was absent tonight: Chino's vocals. They sounded awesome. He did not fuck around too much which was good. He sang like it was on the records and he even made it through the 'highs' in 'Root' and 'Digital Bath'. Amazing... Also, tonight it was again clear to me how fucking good Abe is... That guy is one of my favorite drummers.. He is so good and tight. Surprises where 'Knife Prty' and 'Mx'. Have never heard the first one and haven't heard the second one in ages. All in all a very good, if not, one of the better Deftones shows if seen over the last years... It's like 'the're back or something. Did not wait to meet the band or something like that but might be ready for that on June 12th when I will see them in Luxembourg. Setlist (almost correct order) Korea My Own Summer (Shove It) Beware Of The Water Hexagram Around The Fur Be Quiet And Drive (Far Away) If Only Tonight We Could Sleep Knife Prty Digital Bath Bloody Cape Change (In The House Of Flies) Mx When Girls Telephone Boys Feiticeira Headup -- encore -- (Stef stays making weird noise with his guitar) Bored Minus Blindfold Nosebleed Root 7 Words - Birthmark - 7 Words PS. All you people should stop talking about how fat or cool some people in the band look, start listening to the songs..... Sly sly@slyartwork.com www.slyartwork.com ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Yesterday me and my friend Tim went to the most beautiful show I've ever been to. We came out real early at 3 pm (show starts 8,45pm), we were the first and within no tim Chi came by and greeted us! We took pictures then he had to go. On one moment We saw Chino walking into the center but I could see that he just wanted to go there so I let him be. Later on a little bus stopped and there they were; stephen, frank and abe stephen looked real happy and waved at us. 5 min later stephen came outside to us and I've just talked for fucking 45 min with him!!!! He is a real, real cool dude, one thing you should know is that the release date is 3 october and not 12 september. And we took pictures and autographes off course. Later on we wanted to get some food and we saw Chi again! First I forgot to ask for a autograph but now I had it. Somewhere around 7.30 we could enter the area, I bought me a t-shirt and left my bag at the gardarobe. The deftones came out on 9.45 and started playing Korea the sound, the lights, the energy it was all to crazy:P. When hexagram started Chino came to the crowd and held my hand for almost the whole song! After a couple of songs Chi mentioned that this was one of the best crowds they,ve had in a long time. On one moment stephen looked ad me and smiled to me, I raised my thumb. They were heaving a little break after 12 songs or so but Stephen was really feeling it and kept playing for the break, after that they played a bunch of adrenaline songs, not all but it was crazy. im not sure about the order of the first half of the set but here I go: Korea My Own Summer Beware The Water Hexagram Be Quiet And Drive Feiticeira When Girls Telephone Boys If Only Tonight We Could Sleep MX Change Around The Fur Headup Digital Bath Bloody Cape -----------------Stephen Bored Minus Blindfold Nosebleed Root 7 Words pt1 Birtmark 7 Words pt2 Somewhere in the adrenaline songs Chino did the Clint Eastwood cover but I cant remeber wich one. When they were done I catched a plectrum of Stef. After the show we were waiting outside to speak to the band I only spoke to Chi and Chino for a real, real short sime and then we had to leave. This was a day that gave me everything I wanted to have for this day Thank You deftones!! Also thanks to Tim for going with me and Tims mom for picking us up! Koen ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Deftones live yesterday was a really nice concert! First time for me after 5 years of waiting.... Damn nice. Setlist: Korea, My Own Summer, Beware the Water, Hexagram, Feiticeira, Be Quiet and Drive, When Girls Telephone Boys, If only tonight, Around the fur, Knife Party, Digital Bath, Bloody cape, Change, Head Up, Mx and a mix of 7 words and other adrenaline songs. Awesome experience! See you on Werchter Robin --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Last saturday I saw Deftones for the 2nd time, it was at least twice as good as two years ago in Ahoy Rotterdam. There was a strange atmosphere in the crowd, as if everybody was burning nerves, but when Deftones came up it was a definite tones atmosphere! The setlist was as folowing: my own summer, beware the water (GOD, I'm exited about the new album, great song!!) , hexagram, be quiet & drive, feiticeira, when girls telephone boys, if only tonight we could sleep (which is the best cover of the Cure EVER), Mx, change, around the fur, headup, digital bath, bloody cape... Then there was about a 10 minute pause and Steph was making strange sounds with his guitar, hangin' head down to the jam, spotlight on 'm, beautiful sighting :) Then they all came on stage again and Chi pointed at Chino and said, quote :''I saw him usin' drugs, I saw it'' and something like ''this is the best lookin' crowd, ever!'' Then they continued playing.. bored, minus blindfold, nosebleed, root, 7 words part1, birtmark, 7 words part2 ... they also played a small part of a song from Gorillaz, ''I am happy, feelin' glad, I've got sunshine in a bag... '' very funny, Chino laughed and they went on playing. I must say I was impressed by Chino's vocals, he went to every tone, and the screaming was superb! They seemed to be in a sort of trance of music, very relaxed and happy!! Deftones, looking forward to your new album and I'm definitely gonna visit them again... and again, and again :D Greetings, Thomas Koolmees Holland.
