For our 2nd straight night of TOC we drove 60 miles down to Hartford from western Mass. The Expo Center is basically a big ass metal warehouse, kinda shitty venue. But anyway, after my boy and I drove around Hartford for 2 fucking hours trying to find some food, we made the show before As I Lay Dying. After an eternity of boring new metal crap, Thrice hit the stage. They start out pretty good, with some good energy and power, but I think they sort of wane at the end. Maybe it was just too many bands before our beloved Deftones. Having said all that, once again the Deftones proved they are the shit! No band holds a candle to Chino and the fellas when they are on, and lastnight they were totally on - Chino's vocals were crystal clear and Abe, Chi, Stef and Frank simply ripped it up fucking huge!! Man, I could see them night after night after night. Opening with Feiticeria is always a good move with the crowd, as are other faves like BQAD and Change. They played the same 2 new songs as the previous night, and even better this time. Seems like they are getting into these songs live, and this is reflected by the crowd's energy. Especially strong is the end of the first new song when Stef leaves the keyboards and Chino and he shred dirty heavy crunching chords - total beauty to my ears! All in all a great performance, despite dumbasses fighting in the pit. Perhaps to mellow out the knuckleheads, or planned, the Deftones split 7 Words with the full version of Weezer's Say It Ain't So, what an awesome treat. Spread the word, Deftones is band you can't miss! Setlist - pretty much in order and complete ... Feiticeria My Own Summer Nosebleed? (god dammit, can't remember, but something from Adrenaline) New Song#1 (man, this is some heavy ass shit!) Around the Fur BQAD New Song#2 (Abe was tearin' it up on the kit!) RxQueen (with Street Drum Corps) Bloody Cape Hexagram Change 7 Words (part1) Say It Ain't So (ha, so cool!) 7 Words (part2) Daniel H. McIntosh
