DEFTONES @ "State Theatre" Detroit, MI - U.S.A. 29 Nov 2003 © www.deftonesworld.com Set List: Minerva BloodyCape Summer nosebleed Drive Lotion (here's where it gets sketchy) DigitalBath Mascara Fur Korea Hexagram deathblow Headup CAN'T EVEN BREATHE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ___________ ENCORE ______________ Change Feiticeira Bored 7Words(without the weezer cover)......thank god Ok, here it is: The show was super early, not to mention cold as fuck! They opened with Minerva which to my suprise was amazing, as much as I don't listen to that song because it got played out really quick, very, very good. So I'll tell you what they Didn't play(that I was looking forward to hearing) No Chauffeur!!! I really thought they were gonna play that, no Boy's Republic which they had been playing both alot recently. However they did play Can't Even Breathe which was a suprise as well as a gift. Lotion sounded very good, which is unusual for that song with me seeing them, it always sounds like complete garbage. It was awesome. They played all the rest of the songs as usual. Mascara was kool, slightly different than the last time around(more distortion). Today was also Frank's Birthday and Chino started singing a 50cent song for him, that was humorous. There really wasn't much for talking untill that point, everyone in the band was very quiet. then they loosened up a bit. All in All it must have been the 21st tiime I've seen them live, some have been crap, some have been breathtaking............ but it's always been very fulfilling for me. This was one of they're better moment's. I missed Thrice, Thursday was very good, really short set. Abe was watching them the whole time. I had great time, I took my wife for her first time seeing them, she also enjoyed it. I'm tired as hell, I am gonna go to sleep now and look forward to the morning after. Mike. ponyboy48180@yahoo.com ---------------------------------------------------------------------- This was my 3rd time seeing the Deftones, and probably the best ive seen em, i seen them on there "Guerilla Tour" at the Odeon in Cleveland that was a sweet show just for the fact the venue only holds like 500 people and I met the whole band before the show, anyways back to the show. Thursday and Thrice were good, but they played all there old shit, and no well known songs, because they played a show like 3 weeks ago at the state theatre. When the Deftones came on the crowd went nutz!! as usual. They played there normal set, but the big suprised were they played "Deathblow" that was very unexpected, "Can't Even Breathe" was another shocker, they played a couple other songs ive never seen em play like Mascara and Digital Bath. Band was in good spirits, it was Frank's birthday and Chino rapped some "id Da Club" for him that was cool, and Chino kept talking in Jibberish to the band on purpose that was funny. The encore was suprising coming out with "Change" and "Feicieteria" (sp) then goin into "Bored" then kicking in "7 words" to top the night. I cant remember the set list in order so hopefully someone from Detroit will put that up Bowlgodd1@aol.com ------------------------------------------------------------------- I won't go into elaborate details with big words saying how awesome it was, but it was a Deftones show, and that should sum it up. Opened with Minerva, went through a basic set list of the usual, throwing in Can't Even Breathe to mix it up somewhere near the end. It was Frank's birthday so Chino sang a little 50 Cent for Frank. For the encore they came out with Change, Feiticeira, Bored, and 7 Words. A good, typical Deftones show and I definitly wasn't dissappointed. Set List - Out of order ------- Minerva Digital Bath Be Quiet And Drive Bloody Cape Mascara Around The Fur Can't Even Breathe Nosebleed Deathblow Lotion My Own Summer Korea Hexagram Headup ------ Encore ------ Change Feiticeira Bored 7 Words Jon Peters www.fireal.net ----------------------------------------------------------------- Me and my buddy got their 2 and a half hours early and waited out in the cold. I was gonna take some pics, but security was tight so I had to take the camera back to the car. When we went in, we were frisked by 6 guys! 6! Unfortunately, we had balcony tickets because the main floor sold out so fast, but that wasn't gonna deter me from rockin out to the biggest band on the planet! Thrice was awesome. I'm not too familiar with their work (I heard Illusion Of Safety for the first time the other day), but they still rocked the joint and were very enthusiastic with their playing. After about 5 minutes, Thursday came on. Their setlist lacked all their big singles, but it rocked nonetheless. I kept waiting for their singer's mic to deck someone in the head with him swinging it around. Great set: 1. For The Workforce, Drowning 2. Paris In Flames 3. Between Rupture And Rapture 4. Cross Out The Eyes 5. Division St. 6. Jet Black New Year Then after a half hour (or something close to it), the lights went down and the bleeding red background took over. After only seeing them at bigger venues (SS and Ozzfest), it was a real treat to see my favorite band rock the way they should: in a smaller venue. The pits were going crazy and the band was at its best! Even Steph was getting into it and acknowledging the crowd instead of just sticking to himself. Chino was all over the place, riling up the Detroit crowd. Chi went crazy (as usual). Abe was also in good spirits, headbangin like a motherfucker. Best show I've ever seen them play (even though I would've loved to hear Like Linus, maybe next time). 1. Minerve 2. Bloody Cape 3. My Own Summer (the crowd went fuckin crazy for this one) 4. Nosebleed (that one too) 5. Be Quiet And Drive 6. Lotion (Boo Ya!) 7. Digital Bath 8. Mascara (played extremely slow) 9. Around The Fur (played really slow as well) 10. Headup 11. Can't Even Breathe (!) 12. Korea 13. Deathblow 14. Hexagram ENCORES 15. Change 16. Feiticeira (!) At this point, Chino announced Frank's birthday and rapped some In Da Club before confessing that he isn't a good rapper. 17. Bored (dedicated to everyone who's been there since the beginning) 18. 7 Words (hell yeah) Even though I was in the balcony, I still managed to have a helluva time and got into it. I got some strange looks for getting that much into the show, but fuck all of them, what do they know? rockwillneverdie420@hotmail.com --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Saw the Deftones in Detroit at the State Theatre. It was great to see them at a small place like that. Excellent show overall. I haven't heard much on Thrice but they were great. I was disappointed with Thursday though. I was hoping for more songs off Full Collapse but ahhh well. Then the Deftones came on. I think this is the set list but if I'm off dont kill me: Minerva Bloody Cape My Own Summer Nosebleed BQAD Lotion Digital Bath Mascara Around the Fur Cant Even Breathe Headup Korea Deathblow Hexagram *Encore* Change (ITHOF) Feiticeira Bored 7 Words It was a great set list. I knew it would be a great show cause during the end of "Bloody Cape" where he screams "God Help Me!!" Chino's mic went out and he was banging it against the floor several times. He then threw it and got on Chi's mic and finished screaming it. During the show Chino was in the crowd slapping hands and letting people scream into the mic during "My Own Summer". Before "Mascara" Chino was hitting the mike against his head. It was making a cool sound. He did it when the song was ending too. Before "Cant Even Breathe" Chino was talking to either Chi or Abe about messing up the next song. I think it was Abe he was talking to cause he then said "why you gotta hit me with sticks??" Then they broke into "Cant Even Breathe" I think caught everyone by surprise. It was great to hear. I think was before "Bored" Chi announced that it was Franks birthday. Chino started singing 50 cents' "In Da Club". He only sang 3 lines from it and then stopped. Then Chi went to the mic and said that he would continue the song but he isn't a good rapper. Chino said that Chi was a good rapper and should rap but Chi didn't. Chi then said he was as good at rapping as Steph was on guitar. It was funny. Chino then said that this was for everyone that was there from the beginning and they broke into "Bored" and finished up with "7 Words". Great show. Cant say enough about it.
