Summer Sanitarium 2003 Sunday Aug 3, 2003 Texas Stadium Dallas, TX www.deftonesworld.com Wow what an amazing day, 11hours, 5bands, A-FUCKING-MAZING!!! Mudvayne hit the stage at 3:00 but much to my suprize were not wearing the whole make up outfits, instead they sported Texas flag shirts to show there support. I must admit Mudvayne is not a band i commonly listen to but if your into them they put on one hell of a show. Then the one and only Deftones hit to stage and i was no more than 10 feet from them. I looked as though Steph was perty stoned for the show i must say. They pumped out only 7 or 8 songs but i was in heaven the whole time. Chino lived up to his reputation of puting on an awesome stage show. I was sad to see them go but not to dissapointed since i still had 3 bands to see. Once Linkin Park finally finished setting up they hit the stage and they crowd went crazy. They were filming for there DVD wich will come out later in the year and this made the mosh pit go crazy. They played for a good hour to an hour and a half and the crowd never lost there energy. Then Fred Durst hit the stage and TORE IT UP!!! The whole time in the pit i could hear ppl talkin mad shit about Limp Bizkit but they showed em all whats up. During one of the songs Lars from Metallica came on stage and played the drums to one of the songs. Then Fred decided to play there cover of Sanitarium(Welcome Home) wich they played at the MTV Icon for Metallica back in May. Fred got the crowd into the show and was distracted during Faith when he saw a Chick Fight break out in the stands. He was drinking beer during the whole show and often said " This Bud's for you Dallas". They put on one hell of a show. About an hour later Texas Stadium went black and eveyone knew Metallica was soon to be on the stage. When the lights came on the band was in place for an awesome show. They played a solid 2 hours and 15 min. with 2 encores. It was James's 40th b-day and during the final song Sanitarium he got covered with whiped cream and sily string. Lars came to the mic right before the band left and said " We havnt been in Dallas in about 3 years, so whatd you say we come back in the Spring and play again". All in all i would give the show a superior rating. It was well worth the money i had to pay for scalped tickets, and i cant wait till it comes to dallas again!! - Luke ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Well first of all the entire show was fucking unbelievable!!!! Mudvayne came out right at 3pm and ripped everyone in the pit a new asshole with a blistering set. The guys were dressed in Texas flag Shirts to show support for the Lone Star State. Their set had all of the mudvayne classics like "dig", "not falling", "world so cold" and "death blooms". Then at 4pm it was time for the muthafuckin DEFTONES!!!!! They came out on stage and I went fuckin crazy and pushed my way up to the front. Chino never looked better. They opened with "minerva" and then ripped into "be quiet and drive". After that chino said "what the fuck's up DALLAS" and they played "around the Fur".... and that got everyone in tha pit all fired up. "Shove It" was next....in the middle(before "hey you...big star") Chino sang the opening part of 50cent's "In tha Club" to Stephen...cause today is his birthday!!!! Then after "shove it" Steph had to change guitars and Kirk Hammett from Metallica came out on stage to hand him his guitar....everyone went crazy...cause they knew it was only a matter of time before Metallica hit the stage. After that I believe they played "bored" and towards the end Chino sang the gorillaz "clint Eastwood chorus. Bored was followed by "bloody cape" and Chino hopped around the stage like a fuckin Monkey on acid!!! After that was "To have and to hold" followed by "digital bath" and then they closed out the set with "change". This has been my 10 time to see the Deftones when they roll threw Texas and Each time it keeps getting better and better. Here is the set list in pretty close order. Minerva Be Quiet and drive(far away) Around the Fur Shove It Bloody cape Bored To Have and To Hold Digital BAth Change(in the house of flies) Linkin Park was next and they blew me away!! This was the first time that I have seen them live and surely not the last! They played an awesome set with all the hits like "closer", "in the end", "somewhere i belong" and "crawling" Truly awesome band, I can't wait for them to come back to Texas soon. Next was limpbizkit. They actually played their whole set without being booed off stage like in Chicago last week. I still thing they suck.....and should of never been on this tour in the first place.. They played songs like "nookie" and "faith" , well anyways i went to get food during their set...so that's all i remember hearing were the crappy tunes!!!! NExt was the MIGHTY METALLICA!!! I love these guys, they always deliver everytime i see them play. They played a hellacious 2 hour set with classics like "no remorse" , "for whom the bell tolls" and "creeping death". A lot of other songs were, "frantic", St. anger", "one" "battery" "master of puppets" And nothing else matters" Great show by all of the bands, but I was there to see Deftones and Mudvayne and I truly got my money's worth!! - Russell Campbell ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Yes, oh yes, I just saw the Deftones for the first time. Almost missed them cuz the dude that bought the tickets for me decided it would be a good idea to leave at 12:30 for a 3 hour drive to Dallas to a concert that started at 3. We ran across an interstate or 2 to get there after we parked in the ghetto and when we got in the corridor i heard a slight moan from the stage. Immediately i said "THATS MOTHERFUCKING CHINO!" i thought i might have missed the set so i took off running. I finally found my seat and saw some lady and i asked if this was there first song and she said YES! I have been an obsessive Deftones fan for 3 years or so and I have to tell you it was pretty freakin awesome. I could tell that Chino would rather be in a smaller venue, but he still let it rip through 45 min of classic 'tones. Songs went like this in the best order i can do: 1 Minerva 2 BQ&D 3 Around the Fur 4 My Own Summer 5 Bored 6 Digital Bath 7 Bloody Cape 8 Deathblow 9 Change The crowd was pretty into it, but the place didnt get packed til Linkin Park got on. I stood up in my seat and screamed and pumped my fist through every song. Chino started to sing 50 Cent and "Clint Eastwood" in the middle of a couple songs which was pretty cool. Chi was wailin away as always and Stef was his usual ball of hair holding a guitar but he still fucking killed it. Chino went ape shit at the end of Bloody Cape just as he does on the cd. They did an excellent performance of Shove it also. I was surprised to only hear one song from Adrenaline because i have read some of the reviews and all the setlists were heavy on their first cd. I was hoping that they maybe would do Lotion or Hexagram or maybe even When Girls Telephone Boys (which is the best track on the new album and i hear they have yet to perform live). But i was very pleased about the whole set. LP and LB definitely did their thing. Even though i am not a huge LP fan, there are an amazing live band, and they put on a hell of a show. That foreign rapper dude kept telling the crowd to get hype because they were filming for there DVD to come out late this year. The crowd definitely responded and went ballistic as LP blazed through all there hits. Fred Durst went crazy and started running around the arena singing Take A Look Around. Break Stuff might have been the best song performance of the night, it was fucking crazy. And when Metallica came on i think i had an orgasm. they did all the classics from Battery to Creeping Death. It was Hetfield's 40th bday so they interrupted Sandman to pelt James with pie and silly string. It was hella cool. Well Deftones are the best band out there and i cant wait to see the up close and personal at a smaller venue when they come back to the states for their own headlining tour. Thanks for the scratchy voice and soar neck and back guys! LATER. JOSHUa
