waited in line about three hours to be the first one inside, but as soon as i
got in i had to piss so bad that i lost out to the first row of people. but
whatever, i knew once it started people would be going every where.
dredg was pretty tight, better then i remember them being. some dude yelled
'play a deftones song', that was tight. they played like 30 min.
deftones came on like 25 min later i would. everybody mobbed towards the front,
and it sucked. chino came right out to the crowd barrier on the first song and
yeah, it was tight. you could barely stand up from the crowd swaying the entire
time, so eventually i was in the middle of the club and grits were moshing hard.
but all in all, it was awesome. they played all the jams, not too many breaks
between songs. chi talked more then chino, who i wish would have said more.
but i didnt really care, id waited to see em since 98. the set list was like
all the other ones you've seen for this tour, but i think it was this.....
Be Quiet and Drive
Feiticiera
Change
My Own Summer
Nosebleed
Hexagram
Around The Fur
Rickets
If Only Tonight we Could Sleep
Digital Bath
Minus Blindfold
Engine #9
7 Words
Minerva

oh, and when i was outside earlier i heard them sound checking to elite, the boy's
republic, and to have and to hold. that was tight.

One word for tonight's show: unbelievable! I've seen so many shows at
Bogarts over the years, but the Deftones' energy was unreal. Chino was on
point. His screams, his repore with the crowd, his stage presence - at the
top of his game. Deftones have never sounded better. Do NOT miss this tour
if you have a chance to see them. Tonight was truly for the old school
Deftones fans. I couldn't have hand-picked a better setlist. This is close
to the order the songs were played:
Be Quiet and Drive
Feiticeira
Hexagram
Change (In the House of Flies)
My Own Summer
One Weak
Mascara
Nosebleed
RX Queen
Around the Fur
Rickets
If Only Tonight We Could Sleep
7 Words
Minus Blindfold
Engine #9
Digital Bath
Birthmark
Encore:
Minerva
Bloody Cape
As you can see, a lot of old stuff, and it sounded brilliant. Abe is an
animal. No flaws on this night. Beautiful show.

Review:
I am not prone to overexageration. I have been to
over ninety shows, at least 30 at this particular
venue and, being as this was the 5th time I had seen
this band, I think I can judge there performance
accurately. They were very tight tonite. The
drumming and DJ effects were more prominent this time
than any other time I had previously seen Deftones. I
was very pleased with their adrenaline/around the fur
heavy setlist, not because I think the other two
aren't great records, but because I think these two
records translate better live.
I was especially happy to hear One Weak and Rickets,
two songs I never thought I would get to hear live,
and Minus Blindfold, which I hadn't heard since '96.
The greatest thing about this concert for me was the
power it swelled within me. I hadn't been willing to
get up and go to the sweat soaked, body slamming front
of the audience for almost 2 years, thinking those
days were past. But this time the Deftones proved the exception.
Best performance I have seen this year.

After the show, Robotussin in full effect, we walk out to the great surpise of a towed
car. A taxi cab trip, 30 minutes, and $110 dollars later, we make our way back to the
venue. Getting harassed in a not-so "Deftones fan" friendly part of Cincy by several bums
and almost getting in a car wreck still did not detour us from our ultimate goal.
In what would be considored both the crowning acheivment and greatest moment of our entire
young lives, my friend and I finally met the man himself, Chino. Just having the picture
we took with him hanging in our houses for the rest of our lives will give me the same
chills as when we we're actually there.
But, I must digress, onto the show itself. I know how nearly every fan like to do these
reviews and start out by saying it was the best time they've ever seen the 'tones, whether
it was the 2nd or 15th time they've seen them. So, being my 6th show, I'm not neccessarily
going to start out like that. Although the energy, performance, and intensity was amazing
as always, it was not the greatest.
Due to lack of energy from teh crowd, mainly because it seemed like it was comprised of
13 and 14 year olds who were still in diapers when Adrenaline came out, Chino didn't really
go into his more clssic ad-libs and rants (see: Wasted in Waldrock). We did, however, get
a great setlist with a few surprises as always. Some high points were definately Rickets,
RX Queen, and even Wicked was a great one, even though it seemed as though half the crowd
didn't know what the F was going on. Cheng was a little over the top, per usual, Abe was
clowning as always, and even Frank got in on the action a little more than usual and had a
few moments himself that made us want to scream with joy.
All in all, it was deftinately a good show, simply because of the setlist alone. it's hard
to blame Chino for lack of crowd participation under the circumstances, nor will I attempt.
Chino is the man and Deftones came through as always.

Im not going to bore you with the setlist repeated
again. And frankly I couldnt repeat it back to you
anyway because my memory is a little distorted from
the night. Completely adreneline flowing, intense
madness is how I describe this show. It was my 4th
time seeing the boys and by far the most intense. I
almost passed out a few times, but managed to stay in
the mess for the entire show. My shirt was ripped off
and thrown onto the stage and my tooth went through my
lip as soon as the lights went down. I still managed
to go to that other level that they take you and when
you are caught up in the moment like that you cannot
seem to capture it because you leave that level when
the show ends. Not many bands have been able to do
that (TOOL, APC, Mars Volta) But being that I just got
back home from Iraq not long ago I glad to have been
there even for just a couple of hours. Cant wait for
the new album and the Teamm Sleep project to come out.
