DEFTONES at "House of Blues"
Chicago, IL - USA
26 Oct 2004
www.deftonesworld.com
This was un-arguably one of the tightest, hardest and loudest Deftones show I've ever
seen. The crowd was into it, the show was sold out, and the band was fooling around
on the microphone with the balcony crowd, their tour manager and his groupies, the
groupies themselves and each other. They were smiling the whole night and thanked the
crowd at least 9-10 times. Further Chino came into the crowd twice and even let us sing
along with him.
The set list was identical to Milwaukee's except they opened with Be Quiet and Drive,
they played Digital Bath instead of Knfe Prty and the encore was Minerva and Headup.
He mixed in Wicked into Engine #9, and did the rap from Revenge of the Nerds verbatm after
My Own Summer....very funny and I think his first time doing it.
The show was awesome from head to toe and they clearly knew it too. Abe kicked his drumset
after they were done from being so pumped up and they acknowledged the crowd all the way
through the night.
Can't wait for the new album....no new songs performed.

Doors opened at 7:30, dredg played at 9:00 or so. They Rocked!! What a great opener,
they had a real short list. Pick up their CD!!
While waiting for the tones' to setup, we cooked in the crowd for way too long, and
were forced to watch the chicks in the balcony above tease us because they weren't
drunk enough too show us their tits.
Then it began.... Chino led us into a wave of bodies opening with My Own Summer.
It was a great crowd... until they dropped me... if anyone says it was too tight..
they haven't been to any concerts.. passed out, then carried out. Chino was godlike,
Change - Hexagram - Feiticeira - I lost it when they played the shit out of One Weak..
this was my first deftones experience and that made the whole night.

Deftones Sold Out! read the sign on the House of Blues last night, and
for good reason. This was my fifth time seeing them and a friend that
came along, his eleventh. Awesome performance. Dredg was alrite, they
only played a few songs and got off stage. They seemed like they were
just going through the motions up there.
Deftones came on and I have to say they really were different this
show. They actually were joking around, Chi threw his water bottle (yes
water and not Coors light) at Steph, Chino took long pauses purposely
and would give a grin here and there. They seemed like they were
enjoying themselves. The setlist seemed to be the same only tonite
Chino free styled with Abe for a few which was pretty pimp. Also did
his rhyme of that Clint Eastwood song during Around the Fur. One thing
that was different personally was that I've seen them 4 other times and
the times they had played Digital Bath Chino's guitar would go to shit
and he'd throw it off the stage, this was at an Aragon Gig and the
Rolling Rock Fest 2.0. This time the shit all worked. His voice is on,
which is good to hear as well. If anyone gets the chance to check them
out, you definitely won't be disappointed.

Arrived at 7:30 ticket said 7:30 long ass line outside. waited about half an hour.
Inside at 8:10ish, had never been to the House of Blues.Great place, very small, not
a bad place to be as far as seeing the band. Found out Dredg wasn't starting till 9pm
so we drank some beer and drank some more beer. 9 came around and Dredg started up,this
is my take on the band. I was kind of not sure what I thought. There music sounds good
(no clue what there saying) but their lead singer looked like he was having a stroke.
Not very good stage presence but what the hell, I wasn't there to see Dredg. They played
about 5 songs and then came time for what i've been waiting to see since last November
in Milwaukee. My buddy and I pushed up about 3 rows from the rail pretty cool, Deftones
opened up with Be Quiet and Drive and that got everyone going.Got so shake Chinos hand
that was cool as hell. They kicked ass. Played a pretty heavy set much different from the
last time I saw them. They Finished the show with Bloddy Cape and sent everyone home happy
and wanting more just like they always do.Not going to bother going thru the set cus it
was the same as all the others on this tour.
Any comments email me at deftonesandme@yahoo.com till then later.

Just got home from this AMAZING show. Dredg played the Exact same set as
almost every other show they have played so far on this tour, and the crowd
wasnt into them again for some reason. Im guessing because of the extreme
waits from getting into the venue until the show actually began. after Dredg
playe i noticed that David Draiman and the boys from Disturbed were in the
house enjoying what was about to be one of the best shows ever performed, ok
that may be an exageration but it was damn close. The sound in the house of
blues was great and crystal clear...Chino was in the crowd i swear at least
half of the concert, and the other half he was givin his all on stage or
behind the guitar...the rest of the band was right on que, no fuck up or
anything, sounded AMAZING... Chi was dead on all night with his screams and
what not, but was most impressive during the finale of Head Up (WOW)...this
was my second show on this tour (last was Milwaukee) and this show blew away
the other 10 fold....if you're a true Deftones fan and you passed on this
tour you should be kicking yourself in the ass because it is amazing.

Doors Opened at 7:30 as we waited in a long ass line down Dearbon st. As Soon as I
got there i went directly to the balcony, so i can see a clear view from the band.
As I was waiting for the show to get started, I saw David from Disturbed on my left
side on VIP room and my bro and i waved at them and they waved back, we also saw
another local band KILL HANNAH to our right side and were also waiting for the show
to get started. So anyways the opening band played a good show for like half an hour
and then we were waiting for another 30 minutes for DEFTONES to play, The First song
they played was Be Quiet and Drive, then right after that it was MY OWN SUMMER....
I cant remeber the rest in order but they did an encore with Minerva and Head Up..
SO far this has been the best Deftones Concert I have been to....
Peace out...

oh my god!! i am a little late in posting a review for this show but i am still damn
stunned about the whole show because it was THAT great. Holy crap i think i still
have some of chino's sweat all over me because he was standing over me for a good song.
This was my 5th deftones show and undeniably the BEST show yet. The greatest band in
the world was feeling the audience so much and to know that i contributed to that energy
is AMAZing i feel privlaged to have been a part of that show, and yet so damn sad that
it has ended. SO yeah, Deftones have exeeded my expectations yet again, because just
when i think they can't get any better, THEY DO!!! LOVE THEM ALL (i can't get that
damn show out of my mind it was so awsome)

Doors opened at 7:30 on Tuesday night. For Chicago in October, it was a very mild
night, making it very comfortable
Very good, long show. Very long wait before/between performances, but it was well
worth it. The line to get into the sold-out show extended from the door to State
Street and southbound down state nearly to Lake Street.
Dredg opened, and played about six songs, but nobody seemed to really care. Their
set received mostly applause and very little cheers.
As with the previous time I've seen Deftones live, there was a very long wait between
the last opening act and their performance. I don't know exactly how long of a wait
there was, but it felt like a half hour or so.
Between bands, a lot of people turned pretty rude. Drunk people acted like slobs.
People pushed tighter and tighter towards the stage with little regard for others,
even though there was no place to go. And some of the ape-like guys on the floor
felt it necessary to harass a woman on the balcony because she wasn't trashy enough
to flash the audience.
Deftones entered the darkened stage and opened their show with Be Quiet and Drive.
The set list was as follows, in almost no specific order:
Bored
Minus Blindfold
One Weak
Nosebleed
Lifter
Root
7 Words
Engine No. 9
My Own Summer
Around the Fur
Be Quiet and Drive
Lotion
Headup
Feiticeira
Digital Bath
Korea
Change
Battle-Axe (I think)
Hexagram
Minerva
If Only We Could Sleep
And one more song off of Deftones, I can't remember which
Minerva and Headup were the encore selections.
I had a lot more fun at this show than at their the Aragon Ballroom last November 30th.
Not only was House of Blues a smaller and more intimate environment for the show, but
their set was much longer, they seemed in less of a hurry to end the show, and they
seemed to be having much more fun on stage.
On the technical side, very good lighting for a show that consisted of only par cans and
three strobes. There weren't any noticeable technical issues, except during Minerva,
when Chino repeatedly directed the Monitor Mix Engineer's attention towards his microphone.
Overall, it was a very good show, and I had a lot of fun. Deftones are a very good band
to see in a small venue like House of Blues.
