Deftones - Phoenix, AZ, USA - Monday, Oct. 4, 2004 The show at Celebrity Theater was beyond words the greatest show I have seen in years. I am still reeling from the show. Wow. I have seen the Deftones 3 times at this venue and they have all been great, its a great place to see live bands. Up close and personal. The way it should be -- to see a band you love to hear live and such. Well the opening band was not that great, I wasnt impressed one bit. Pretty maninstream if you ask me. BAH. A good band to have open if you want to sit down and have a few drinks. The Deftones set was amazing I dont remember the setlist but I was in love because it was all older songs. It was great to be right up front near the band and watching them all go insane and the crowd was pretty great. I was so happy to hear the Cure cover--- I felt a bit old being the only person right up front to know every word to that song. At least in the little corner I was standing at I felt like I was the only one sing along. Anyhow I cannot wait for another show and the new album. The evening kicked ass. Teresa (evergirl77@yahoo.com) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- The show was at Celebrity Theater and if anyone here has ever been there then they know it is one of the best venues to see a band in. The venue is circular with a rotating stage so seriouisly no matter where you are you have an amazing view. Dredge opened up and were very good. I saw them 2 or 3 years ago opening for Taproot and I think they have improved on there live performances. Then deftones came on... They opened with Hexagram and the place went crazy.. It was awesome to see alot of old songs played espescially when I was thinking that this would be more of a newer song show. The only problem was they didn't even play one new song. But that really wasn't much of a problem since they played Damone. I have seen the deftones many many times but have never head Damone live so that was amazing. At one point Chino was saying he wanted to play something for people who had been there since Adrenaline and then went into Nosebleed. Heres the setlist in no order.. Hexagram Minerva Bloody Cape Feiticeira Change Digital Bath Knife Party My Own Summer Around the Fur Be Quiet and Drive Lotion Damone<---------------------------Fucking Sweet 7 Words Nosebleed Engine #9 with Wicked rap Minus Blindfold Can't Even Breathe If Only Tonight We Could Sleep Jason Barcon ------------------------------------------------------------------------ I won't attempt to type the setlist since I'll forget songs and not post an accurate list. But I will make the following observations about the show last night: 1. The band is in top form, since this was my 5th time seeing them, and probably one of the best. 2. Celebrity Theater is the best place I've ever seen a show of that size, with that many people (stage in the middle, rotating). As most of you have noticed Chino cut his hair again. They also didn't play anything new, as far as I could tell. The opening band, Dredg, was ok, and just "ok." They played well and consistently, but there's also not much original about them, aside maybe from the slide guitar the singer uses, but I think they're just one of many bands that's following the general trend--there's nothing wrong with that, but it gets boring. The kind of remind me Thrice, or Thursday, even. They put on a solid set, but I would never buy their CD. I think the Deftones, if they keep this up, will be alive in 25 years. "If Only Tonight We Could Sleep" was also incredible. Have fun at the show!!! --Walter (revolution_1977_m@yahoo.com) ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Here is the full setlist in its correct order: -Hexagram -Feitcetera -Change -My Own Summer -Damone -Engine #9 -Can't Even Breathe -Be Quiet & Drive -Lotion -Nosebleed -If Only Tonight We Could Sleep -Digital Bath -Knife Party -7 Words -Minus Blindfold (Encore break) -Around the Fur -Minerva -Bloody Cape Awesome, intense show, with Chino all over the audience.
