The show was amazing. I've seen Deftones live once before last year, and
they definately topped themselves on this show. The energy coming from the
band was incredible. Overall, an amazing show.
When I got to Stubb's, I was a little dissapointed to see that it was an
outdoor venue. My friends and I drove all the way from Houston to see the
show, so we were unfamiliar with the venue. But when we got settled in, I
realized it was actually a really good outdoor venue, it was really small
for an amphitheater (which is good) and by the time Deftones came on it was
dark enough outside that the lights were great and very effective. Also, the
weather was unbelievable...no humidity and a great temperature, so during
the show I almost forgot it was outside.
Dredg, the opening band, was okay. We had to wait almost two hours for them
to finally come onstage, which was a little ridiculous. A person in front of
us was raving about Dredg, so when they came on they didn't exactly live up
to what he was saying. They did put on a pretty good show, and were probably
the best band I've seen opening for Deftones yet.
Finally, at about 10:00, Deftones came on. I was in awe as they walked
calmly onstage and prepared mountedinstruments. The opening chords of
Hexagram sent the audience into a frenzy, and I got mauled from all sides as
the crowd swayed back and forth and screamed along. At first, I couldn't
even hear Chino above the shouting of the fans, but they turned up the
volume of his microphone promptly. After Hexagram, I got the hell out of
there, and found a nice place right in front of the mosh pit where I wasn't
getting suffocated. I was in about the middle of the floor, so the view was
still great.
After playing Feiticera a Change, which were both flawless performances
(Chino neglected to shout out some of the lines like he does somtimes and
stuck to the song perfectly), the secret track from Around the Fur, Damone,
came on and I was blown away by it. It was an amazing performance for a song
I really love. Then, they launched into My Own Summer at which point I threw
myself into the pit and pushed around for a while. I can't even describe the
rush of adrenaline when Stephen started up Engine No. 9 and I rocked out.
After that I relaxed for awhile while they played Can't Even Breathe.
The biggest even for me was their performance of Lotion. It was incredible.
Chino stood up on Chi's bass amps and the singing/screaming was flawless. It
was an incredible performance, and they were all right on. They were tighter
than ever as a band, and one of the great things about it was you could tell
how loose they were feeling onstage. I loved the talking between the
aduience, Chino, and Chi between some songs. The energy was pouring from
them and they were definately at the top of their game. I was surprised to
see Chino with a more clean-cut, slimmed down look than last year. The only
dissapointment was that they didn't play any new material.
SHOW HIGHLIGHTS: Damone, Knife Prty, Nosebleed, Lotion, Bloody Cape, Stephen
letting his guitar feedback as the strobe light got faster and faster.

I've only seen a hand full of Deftones shows since 2000, but this show was
definitely one the strongest performances I've ever seen. Reminds me of the
Deftones concert I flew to go see in Seattle, WA on October 24th where they put
on a two hour show going at light speed the whole time.
My friend and I get to the Venue at aprrox. 7:30 PM. We messed up bad because we
were originally supposed to be on the guest list. But because we got there as
things were getting busy, we couldn't get the issue resloved. We ended up buying
tickets off a scalper and making some dude a bunch of money while at it.
No worries though, I'm about to see a Deftones show. We get inside and it's
another half hour before Dredge comes on. They put on a good show for the most part.
High energy in their performance, but the music ain't for me. They finish their set
and there's about a 20 minute delay before the Deftones come on. In the meantime my
friend notices a friend working the venue. Turns out he was the guy doing sound that
night. For which band, I'm still not sure. I brought my Deftones (S/T) 12" vinyl
cover just in case I might be lucky enough to get it signed. She asks him to get it
signed, and he agrees.
Photographers get their cameras ready for the band to exit. At first, you could only
hear a light cheering from the side of the stage we were; right next to the entrance
onto the stage. As they walked out, probably only about 10-15 feet away from where
I was standing, the most memorable thing I remember was seeing Stef smoking a fat
joint as they stormed out. Deftones take the stage and the place errupts with applause.
The entire set was amazing. Chino's voice was the strongest I've ever witnessed.
He would hit his ear drum piercing screams so effortlessly you'd question if it were a
human making that sound or a crazy sample of Frank's. As usual, he was all over the
place. At times, when I lost sight of him for a few seconds, I'd look around to see him
clear on the other side. He would come within touching distance of the crowd so often,
I wonder how he can put up with those people practically ripping his clothes off. But
then again, that's what makes Deftones concerts so special. I think it's the coolest how
Chino is attentive enough to the crowd to stop the music and help out people in the
moshpit. When conversing with the crowd he did impressions of Dave Chappel's Li'l Jon.
He sweated some kid in there accusing the kid of being only 14 years old. Then he went
on to say, "So you were only 4 when Adrenaline came out." He thanked the people who have
been supporting them since 1995 and the band went into some of their old music. Stef
shredded his axe with intense verocity and precision. When there were short breaks in
between songs, he would light something and smoke it. What it was, I'm not sure of, but
I have a good idea. Chi dropped his basslines like a mad man, almost as if trying to
get everyone to piss themselves. The only glimpses I saw of him were when he walked to
the opposite side of the stage as Frank did a solo. During the set Chino and Chi joked
with each other's nationalities. Chi said something in Chinese and Chino then mockingly
said something in spanish. I couldn't see Abe on the stage from where I was, but he didn't
miss a beat. I also couldn't see Frank, but his DJing is so much more apparent when you
hear them live. He adds a whole other dimension to their music. And the samples that he
uses are so amazing, I don't know how he does it. When he does his solos, the sounds he
uses are so unusual, it's almost as if it's other worldly.
They finish their set at about 11:00 PM (city ordinance). As the lights come on, I look
around and see smiles on everyones faces. A lot of them looking around for any little item
that might make a good souvenir. My friend sees someone else she knows working the venue.
Turns out, he's the production manager there. She asks him to hook it up with some stuff.
He goes on stage to help roll up all the Deftones gear and 15 minutes later comes back with
picks, a setlist, and a set of Abe's sticks used that night. Freaken sweet!!! We see the
sound dude and he returns the album cover, unfortanately, unsigned. But hell, I'm not
disappointed. I got all this bad ass stuff and I have Brooke to thank. Also, got some
Deftones flyers and flats thanks to Streetwise. To see the setlist check out the picture.
They played everything except Digital Bath. In the other picture you can see how hard Abe
plays. The sticks are all beat up. I think the orange picks are Chino's and the blue one
is Stef's. The orange ones are thinner and I think more suited to Chino's softer, strumming
style. Truly, one of the best days of my life. Thanks to the Deftones.

I'll start off by saying this was by far the best out of the three Deftones
concerts I have been to so far. Stubb's is a smaller venue, so it definitely
made for a more intimate concert. Dredg opened and played well despite having
technical difficulties with the snare.
Then the Deftones opened with Hexagram and the crowd went crazy.
Chino is still wearing those socks from the last tour. The band was more
talkative than usual and Chino even smoked a "cigarette" that was given to
him by someone in the crowd. Stef had a couple of new guitars including a
Gucci print one as well as a camo one. Chino pointed out before playing Root
that Adrenaline came out ten years ago and then dedicated the song to those
who had been here since then.
They didn't play any new songs, which was the only bad part of the show.
They more than made up for it though, by playing a lot of song that weren't
played on the recent tours. Root, Knife Prty and Engine #9 were amazing to
finally hear live. The band sounded great and I can't wait for them to come
back again.

I had pretty damn good time at my first Deftones concert.
I was eating lunch at Stubbs BBQ (where the concert was) and looked out and
I saw who I was on the phone with standing outside since we were supposed to
meet there, and I saw the Deftones' tour bus, so I got out there and I shook
hands with Frank and Chino, Chino didn't really want to talk I think.. he
seemed like he was in a rush.. I was with stef for about 2 or 3 minutes
maybe and I got some pictures. He started laughing at me because my friend
was taking a picture and the batteries went out on my camera that he was
using, and then I couldn't find a pen for him to sign the ticket, so.. yeah
he thought it was funny I guess ...
I was in the VERY front row, which was cool, I was on the left in front of
the big ass speaker... It kind of sucked because it was so loud you really
couldn't understand what he was saying. Everyone was crowd surfing and shit
during Knife Party, but I didn't even know that's what they were playing
until like halfway through because I couldn't tell... it was just too fuckin
loud... haha...
After of literally an hour of standing there, Dredg opened up, and they had
a pretty good set, I thought they did well. After the first song the drummer
threw a cymbal into the crowd, and later he had to replace a snare, then
some time later he hit one of the cymbals or something and it flipped upside
down, and the singer had to fix it during the song, and of course something
else off of the drums fell off... Then the singer was puttin the mic up on
the stand while he was going to do some keyboarding during a song and he
couldn't get the stand to stay and the mic fell off... it was funny...
Another 30-45 minutes goes by easily and Deftones come out...Immediately
Chino goes into the crowd and starts playing Hexagram...After the song
apparently some girl was getting hurt because Chino kept saying "Is she
alright? Make sure she's okay.. Is she okay??" Then the played Feiteceira
and then Change (In the House of Flies). I kinda forget the rest of the set
list but I know they closed with Bloody Cape.. I don't think they played as
much as they did in the other concerts but it was still tight.. No new
material either, except before the gates opened, we could hear Deftones
practicing and it sounded like some new shit... I had recorded some of it
but accidentally deleted it so don't get too pissed. There weren't any
vocals.. but when Chino did start practicing all we heard him say was "Fuck!
Shit! Fuck! Shit!"
Anyway, I had a good view until a bunch of stupid girls who didn't even seem
to enjoy the concert started sitting on top of eachother in front of the
barricades where I was standing, so the rest of the show I couldn't see
shit... they never fucking moved even though people including me were
pushing them out of the way. During the bridge of 7 Words where he says like
"big fucking ape" or whatever I threw my shirt into the crowd because it
kept fallin off of me (it was a button up shirt, and I had an undershirt on
so don't worry...)
Some funny moments are when they were talking about some Chinese restaraunt
or some shit (Chino and Chi) and when Chino was like "Oh look at those
people under the stairs...you sneaky mother fuckers......hey everyone look
at the people in the balcony, those rich mother fuckers....don't want to get
their shoes dirty..." Everyone started cracking up and giving them the
finger, including me, and the people in the balcony were giving us the
finger back .. it was funny...Keep in mind Chino was talking like he was out
of breath and high or somethin...it made it funnier...
Yeah so after the concert I went to the Shell gas station to get a drink and
when we got back we found out of course Chino had gone by and signed
everyone's tickets so I was fucking pissed... I already met him anyway
though so it's cool...
Overall: Dredg was cool despite the drum problems... I thought they did
good. Deftones kicked major fucking ass but I couldn't really see them too
well for most of the concert because of those bitches in front of me...

I took a 2-3 hour trip from Dallas to Austin to see the deftones. This was my
3rd time but not so sure if it was the best. Craziest? Hell yes it was. I started
with a horrible 1 1/2 hour wait for dredge who I thought were somewhat boring. So
basically it was a 2 1/2 hour wait for the deftones. After getting fed up along with
everyone else, deftones finally showed up and kicked off the show. I was dead center
about 10 people away from the Chino. The pit was fucking insane. I'm pretty use to
crazy pits...but this one became too much for me too fast....and many other people as
well. They kicked if off with hexagram and by the end of the song, about 7-8 people
including myself fell to the floor hard on our asses. It was pretty much a chain
reaction starting with a girl some guys and i were trying to help surf her way out
of the pit(but failed)...and it went fucking nuts and helpless from there on.
A couple girls were crying. People were screaming. I was drifting into unconsciousness
after half a minute of being on the floor and no one being able to help me or the
other people on the floor. Oh yeah, my shoes and hat got ripped off, as well as my
shirt ripped open. I barely got out of that horrible pit and had to chill in the back
for deftones. Chino saw what was going on in the pit and took a short break to give
people time to get up. Thank God. Thank Chino. I've seen them 3 times and I must say
this was by far the craziest of the three. It was a beautiful night as well. The set
list was really damn good. They played a couple of rare songs. Here's what I remember:
(in no order)
hexagram
change
around the fur
lotion
knife party
be quiet and drive
root
7 words
engine # 9
birthmark
can't even breathe(very badass!)
my own summer
bloody cape
teething ( I think)
minerva
this might be my last pit.... 8 ).... 8 (

Deftones live in Austin October 9th.very very awesome show.the concert was held at
Stubb's BBQ.a very nice and personal setting like a concert should be.I got there
pretty early.was able to take some pictures when Chino and crew came out and greeted
the fans after their sound rehearsal.
When the show started I was up front in center.third person back from the stage rail.
Dredg was the opening band.this was the first time for me to ever hear them.I thought
they did a great job rocking.and did all that a deserving opener should do.the pit was
a little rough during their performance.but nothing too bad.the crowd really made them
feel welcomed.Stubbs's pit crew put forth a good effort in keeping things halfway
organized.
Then the Deftones took the stage with a massive amount of energy playing hexagram.Chino
took right to the rails.towering over the crowd and dominating the scene as rock gods
do.the pit pretty much exploded.bottles, shoes and people flying everywhere.I was able
to hold chino up a couple times hand to hand.which was freak'in awesome.they continued
the night playing many of their greats.hexagram, change and knife party.to name a few.
They also played "if only tonight we could sleep".which took the cake for me.that song
is simply "sweet".Frank, Stef, Abe and Chi creating the dark yet relaxing music.then
Chino coming in at the end with the killer vocals to make it complete.it's one of many
songs they've done that's full of enchantment.piercing straight to the heart.all in
all the show was perfect.well worth the four hour drive and 3 hours standing in line
to see a band that loves their fans and has always been original.jump on this tour.
support your band.Deftones forever.
