I'll only accept reviews from recent shows!
This show was great! Everyone there seemed to be big Deftones fans (was anyone there for Deadsy, really.).
The crowd was thrashing during the fast songs and singing during the slow songs. The venue was also good.
I like small venues, up close and personal. Pit space was small, but good because it caused more people to thrash.
Good comrade in the pit as well. Just like the good old days. I hope they play there again in the future.
Oh yea, I got into town around 5:00. I saw Chi on the street by the tour busses. I said "Chi" and did a standing
prayer bow (don't ask why, it is just what I did). He smiled and sort of waved, but it also seemed like he wanted to
be left alone. So I went on my way. Cool to see him off-stage. So when is their next show, I am ready!

Last Thursday my buddy Billy called me up and asked if I still had my Chico Tickets.
We bought them before the Filmore SFO show opened up so most of us just sold thw Chico tickets
and bought the Filmore tickets because it was closer. Man, I'm so glad he called me up. Road trip to a
party town, with my brother Billy and the Deftones? It was on... I was really surprised when I found out
Willhaven was going to be there too. That means Grady Avenall was back in the mix.
I new nothing about Deadsy but was willing to check them out.
So we show up totally early, and cruised all the bars in Chico.growing up I heard about Pioneer days and all
the craziness.there were so many cool places to play in that town. College towns rock. It was around 7:10pm
when we got in the long line to get in. we bought some booze inside and then waited for Willhaven to start.
I saw these guys back in 2000 at the Petaluma show in support of White Pony. These guys rocked my world then.
when I heard the Grady had left the band I was bummed, because I dug his style. he's back but you can tell he's
more mellow now. the three year hiatus can do that. Jeff, Mike and Mitch did "Ghostride" when Grady left.
They were cool too. So there set was short and sweet. Heavy, melodic and entertaining to watch still.
Soon after, Deadsy came on stage. awe man. These poor guys, I didn't even get a chance to dig them because
the Main mix took a crap after song three.. you could hear the monitor mix only. These guys were pros,
keeping the whole thing professional and praying that the mix would be on any second, but no.. the whole damn
third of fourth tune just was not audible. The first two songs were cool, then the lead singer said they were cutting
their set early for the sound engineers to fix this mix for the Deftones... about an hour later, the lights go down.
A really cool opening sound track, not like the Laura Palmer theme from the day, but one that blended well with
the first song. Feticeria. I love those guitars!! Abe in full punk drunk mode, Chino belting out the songs and and
Chi swinging the bass like a juggler. Of course Steph, cool as ever, hair down with ¾ pants and adidas. I was
glad to see them again. The last time I met the Chino was in Oakland with Teamsleep. He looked good again,
with the chucks and ¾ cut off pants. Abe has some tape on his kick drum near the TAMA logo that said "Trust
No Bitch" A girlfriend told me he just got a divorce or something.. that sucks, but he rocked it too..
all the songs were awesome, went off with out a hitch. I like the sexy back line Chino sang in the refrain of
"My Own Summer."
Be quiet and drive rizz-ocked! I love that jam, that was the first tune I heard that got me stuck on Deftones.
Digital Bath, awesome.. I was waiting for more of the Deftones self titled songs like Battle Axe and Minerva,
but none, except Hexagram.
Knife Party - I've never heard that song live but it was great. I was missing Rodleen's vocal tracks so I gave
here a phone call hoping she would sing them to me over the phone, but her voice mail was full. Damn rock stars!
When Hole in the earth came on, it was great. the whole band nailed it. I was concerned if Chino would hit
those high notes on the line "I hate all.. of my friends" and he did. did it well.
After the show, I met up with Grady and asked him if he was going to the play at the Filmore, but he said he
couldn't because he had to work.what a tough business this is, but well worth the ride!

OVerall the best I've seen deftones live. They all seemed in good spirits and playing well. Abe wailed away on the drums,
chi was bouncin around all over the place, and Stef showed his face and was getting into the show. Chino sounded tight on most of the songs,
however missed a few notes and left out a few words. I was especially bummed when he didnt sing the high parts on Beware and Waves.
I just bought SNW and would have been pleased if they played the album in its entirety, but WTF every song in the set kick ass. If any of you
out there are questioning this show...dont hesitate. Spend the cash and see these living metal legands LIVE.
